Earthquake at Dawn

Creator: Kristiana Gregory, Mary Exa Atkins Campbell | Juvenile Fiction - 2003

A novelization of twenty-two-year-old photographer Edith Irvine's experiences in the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake, as seen through the eyes of fifteen-year-old Daisy, a fictitious traveling companion.

Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

About this book
It's April 18, 1906, and a powerful earthquake has just rocked San Francisco. Photographer Edith Irvine and her assistant, Daisy Valentine, survive the tragedy. Armed with Edith's camera, the two women set out to document the devastation--even as buildings crumble around them and soldiers promise to shoot anyone trying to photograph the crippled city. Based on the real-life experience of photographer Edith Irvine, this harrowing tale of bravery and survival includes many of Irvine's now-famous photographs.

Us, A User's Guide

Creator: Dan Tocchini | Religion - 2010-01-01

Whether a marriage is in deep trouble or just coasting along, it's time for Christian couples to read the User's Guide that God intended.

Publisher: David C Cook

About this book
Veteran marriage coach Daniel L. Tocchini doesn't want to improve marriages. He wants to transform them. Drawing on personal experience and stories from couples he has coached, he offers practical guidance to move couples beyond communication tricks and gimmicks to help them truly understand "Us" for the first time—talking honestly, listening generously, tackling tricky issues, breaking out of ruts, and abandoning self-centered "consumer thinking." Innovative, insightful, and thoroughly biblical, Tocchini's approach has helped thousands in his popular seminars. Whether a marriage is in deep trouble or just coasting along, it's time for Christian couples to read the User's Guide that God intended.

    Great Drive Great Speed

This is a great drive. I just purchased my 4th one and haven't had any issues with the sleep problem everyone is talking about (I'm running a PC, Windows 7). I Don't run seagates software however so don't know if this is contributing to the issue (Tech support in another review stated this feature was adjustable or could be turned off via there seagate dashboard software). Speed is greaaaattt. I can keep a consistent transfer speed above 90 MB (Usually resides around 98 MB/S with peaks of 112MB), and I can achieve this between two of them on the Same USB3.0 controller (Using a USB 3.0 Hub). I use all types of drives from all the manufacturers, and Honestly, I normally haven't been impressed with Seagate in the past, however this unit is just rock solid, fast, consistent, and easy to install. One caveat I ran across is installing more than 1 of the same drives on your computer can sometimes be difficult as it uses the same identifier to Windows Drive Management, so... 5/5 longtimereader - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 50/50 chance 1 TB STAC1000101 will work

Bought one of these at Best Buy, the other at OfficeMax around Labor Day taking advantage of price match & deals.I have a new Dell XPS 8300, Windows 7 64-bit OS, I5-2400 CPU & 8GB of ram. The drives are connected to a Buffalo Tech USB 3.0 PCI-E card with two ports.Drive #1 (made in China) bought at OfficeMax screamed out of the gates in file transfers from SATA3 & SATA2 internal drives in my computer via USB 3.0. I transferred a single 6 GB file in less than a minute. Transferred the same size file from an external SATA2 Hitachi using an eSata cable out to my Dell in just slightly more time (1:08).However, the more files and varying sizes you transfer at one time does affect (slows) performance speed. So there is some give & take here and perhaps that is to be expected.Drive goes to "sleep" and comes out without any of the other reported problems you may have read.BTW # 1: I have disabled all of the installed software that came... 4/5 late night fan (los angeles) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Serious problems with the 3TB USB 3 GoFlex Drive

I bought 3 at the same time thinking that what can be wrong!I was able to copy 2.5 TB from a friend drive to one of these 3 drives. It took about 2 days but this was very fast because it took 2.5 days when I copied the same to a 3TB WD drive.I was able to use the first drive for karaoke once in a while in the first 2 months. Then suddenly I could no longer see the drive in Windows (This PC has Windows 7, 32-bit). Since then I could never get the drive to work except for a single time when it was recognized but hung quickly while a video file was being played. At that time, I couldn't shut down Windows without unplugging the drive power. All other times, I could see the left most LED on but the drive did not even seem to run.For the second drive, I wanted to use it to back up a 0.5 TB system image of another PC that had Windows 7 64-bit. The Windows backup ran for 2 days but I could see that not much data was copied so I cancelled the backup thinking... 1/5 Christopher Chu - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Format this drive first to avoid issues with this drive!!

I was expecting this drive to be like a spare drive to back up files and store data on and allow me to edit some files as I wanted. I really was expecting it to work just like a jump drive does, but have a lot more storage space. I didn't want to have to plug it into a wall, you know, portable. I wanted to be able to take it to several computers I have at home and at work. What I found out after I placed my order was that these drives by Seagate have pre-installed software on them that once connected to your computer will ask you to load, after a two minute wait. If you install this software "Dashboard" and whatever else is there, you may have some of the issues like all of the other negative ones I read. YOU DON'T NEED THIS SOFTWARE, SO DO NOT INSTALL IT!!! Seagate must think that the only purpose to buy this drive is to do a back-up on one computer and to have it auto run every so often, hence their software. I personnaly am not interested in their software, especially... 3/5 lasfk - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Plenty of space for all your files

I've tried out 3 Seagate GoFlex portable hard drives - the GoFlex Pro Ultra Portable (500gb), the GoFlex Slim (320gb), and the GoFlex Ultra Portable (1TB). I have been happy with all 3 of them actually. I initially had the 500gb but it was getting too full and I decided to try out the 1TB. The 1TB has plenty of space for all my files with plenty of room to spare. It comes with 2 versions of backup software plus some trial versions of programs for syncing and sharing files. Between my 3 Seagate hard drives, I have tried out both of the backup programs included on these hard drives, but since my 1TB is mostly used for extra space I have chosen to just copy files to it manually. I'm very set in my ways and this is how I've always backed up files, whether to another hard drive or to CDs or DVDs so this is what I do on this hard drive. I've used the backup software on my GoFlex Slim though since I am primarily using it for backup and the backup software is easy to use. I... 5/5 Lisa (Sunflower, MS) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 500 GB USB 2.0 Ultra-Portable External Hard Drive STAA500100 (Black)

I am not a techie kind of reviewer as I don't have the expertise - so from a layman's point of view this unit performs well and is every bit as good or better than my old Seagate 250GB I purchased quite some time ago for the same price. So five stars until the review needs updating.I purchased this one for my ex based on Amazon reviews and it is basically a plug and play unit - coming up on her Mac portable as soon as we plugged it in and with a few instructions from me she was backing up her computer hard drive. Mine has a metal case - hers is plastic. She is certainly less computer savvy than I am, and was pleased with how easy it was to plug in and get "worry free" about losing data for some yearly government reports she has to do. (And yes, it did take her losing and having to re-enter a couple of months worth of data to agree to go to a backup system). I call that an ERL (Experience Related Learning).I would assume this is just as easy to... 5/5 Tom Massart (Husum, WA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
