In-Memory Data Management, Technology and Applications

Creator: Hasso Plattner, Alexander Zeier | Business & Economics - 2012-05-14

This book examines for the first time, the ways that in-memory computing is changing the way businesses are run.

Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media

About this book
In the last fifty years the world has been completely transformed through the use of IT. We have now reached a new inflection point. This book presents, for the first time, how in-memory data management is changing the way businesses are run. Today, enterprise data is split into separate databases for performance reasons. Multi-core CPUs, large main memories, cloud computing and powerful mobile devices are serving as the foundation for the transition of enterprises away from this restrictive model. This book provides the technical foundation for processing combined transactional and analytical operations in the same database. In the year since we published the first edition of this book, the performance gains enabled by the use of in-memory technology in enterprise applications has truly marked an inflection point in the market. The new content in this second edition focuses on the development of these in-memory enterprise applications, showing how they leverage the capabilities of in-memory technology.  The book is intended for university students, IT-professionals and IT-managers, but also for senior management who wish to create new business processes.

Ball Grid Array Technology

Creator: John H. Lau | Technology & Engineering - 1995

This text covers ball grid array (BGA) design and manufacturing.

Publisher: McGraw Hill Professional

About this book
This text covers ball grid array (BGA) design and manufacturing. BGA is a relatively new way of connecting leads from an integrated circuit package to a printed circuit board, allowing a higher pin count and function density than other connection methods and giving the lowest signal delay. These features make it an important component of modern high performance systems, but the density of leads makes manufacturing and process control very difficult.

This review is from: G-Technology G-RAID Storage System 4TB High-Performance Dual External Hard Drive with USB 3.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800 Interfaces and RAID 0 (0G02484) (Personal Computers) Be Careful! At first I didn't believe the 1 star review but it turns out the reviewers were right! After 30 days of purchase the unit fails miserably. My hardware specialist technician at my workplace has stated that the unit is faulty since the motor is making strange noise like cheap product. Graid is highly not reccomended..all my data backups are gone and that is not the worst part. It even make mu Macbook Pro fails also due to technical breakdown during backup caused by this unit. Beware of the seller as well! The unit seems to be faulty before shipment!! According to my technical guy! This is the worst purchase I have made in amazon so far... G-Raid really speeds up Lightroom 5 on Windows 7 PC

I used the G-Raid 8TB USB 3.0 system on my Windows 7 PC using Lightroom 5, Photoshop CS5 and Premiere Elements 11. Most of my photos were taken on a Nikon D800, so the .jpg and .nef files are absolutely huge. Prior to this upgrade to my system, it could take minutes to paint the thumbnail photos for a full page on my screen. Now, it's almost instantaneous. The G-Raid is super quiet, goes into power savings mode when not in use, and seems to run very cool. The only issue I had with mine was that their instructions for reformatting it for NTFS for a Windows system were incorrect (the default set up for the G-Raid is for a Mac). After a phone call to their very helpful support team, I got the proper instructions, and have been on the air ever sense.I went on to purchase a second G-Raid for my other PC, and this one WAS able to follow their instructions on the web. The date codes between the two systems were 6 months apart, so perhaps they have had... 5/5 S. Stallard (Payson, AZ.) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) WORST PRODUCT EVER

1/5 Vanessa P. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: G-Technology G-RAID Storage System 4TB High-Performance Dual External Hard Drive with USB 3.0, Firewire 400, Firewire 800 Interfaces and RAID 0 (0G02484) (Personal Computers) I have NEVER posted a review in Amazon but I NEED to do it now. A friend recommended this brand and I read some reviews BUT after less than a month in use I got an error message and basically the disk decided to stop working. I lost a $3,000 course photo folder, not to mention my iMac now suddenly turns off every once in a while out of nothing (when after formatting the disk to give it a second chance I am trying to put info into it again). I could have never spent more money in such a horrible bad functioning product! Do not buy or at least now from this seller! Awaiting exchange; mine randomly dismounts.

I purchased mine a month ago to hold my sample library (I'm a composer and have roughly 1TB so far of virtual instrument libraries).During the second week, I noticed a "Device Removal!" error (meaning, the drive had unexpectedly disconnected from the Mac); I figured it was a fluke. But last night, it did this three times, during a big read operation. Hideous. Specifically, I was opening a project that used a number of orchestral instruments, and the G-Tech drive dismounted in the middle of their loading process. OUCH.I've taken the exchange route this time, but if the replacement drive exhibits the same behavior, I'm getting a refund and moving on. (Up to now, I've gotten most of my audio-purposed drives from Other World Computing and had pretty good luck - one failure in I think 8 years.)G-Tech cannot advertise this drive as suitable for A/V/Digital Media work -- or much of anything else, really -- if this is how it performs. I'll report back after... 1/5 Carla K Barlow - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Beware of Dog!

Failed in less than a month after it arrived here. Returned it and was sent a refurbished unit. I talked with a tech support supervisor, who agreed it should be replaced with a new one. Had to call him daily for about seven business days in a row to finally get it shipped to me. So, OK, stuff happens. Got the new one but needed an additional unit and purchased one. OS is Windows 7 sp 1; NLE is Avid Symphony 6.5.2. Must use 7200 rpm drives for video editing. The bottom line: have returned three of these dogs in fewer than nine months. Although the units offer firewire 800 and e-sata, can only use USB 2.0 port. Am an independent nature video producer who has had to transfer more than two TB of video files from one unit to another three times via USB 2.0. Try to imagine the wasted time! Plus I had to pay shipping to return the units to G-Tech, except that the last time, G-Tech paid for it.G-Tech's support staff tried to be helpful. Those individuals... 1/5 Thomas H.
