About this book
With the shift from film to digital, today’s filmmakers are empowered by an arsenal of powerful, creative options with which to tell their story. Modern Post examines and demystifies these tools and workflows and demonstrates how these decisions can empower your storytelling. Using non-technical language, authors Scott Arundale and Tashi Trieu guide you through everything you should consider before you start shooting. They begin with a look to past methodologies starting with traditional film techniques and how they impact current trends. Next they offer a look at the latest generation of digital camera and capture systems. The authors move on to cover: * Preproduction- what camera is best for telling your story and why, budgeting for post* Production- on-set data management, dailies, green screen, digital cinematography* Postproduction- RAW vs. compressed footage, editing, visual effects, color correction, sound and deliverables including DCP creation The book features cutting-edge discussion about the role of the digital imaging technician (DIT), how you can best use the Cloud, motion graphics, sound design, and much more. Case studies show you these solutions being applied in real-world situations, and the companion website features videos of techniques discussed in the book, as well as timely updates about technological changes in the landscape. www.focalpress.com/cw/arundale

I'm a media professional. I work with a lot of RED footage, project files, and music. I need a reliable, fast, and portable drive to take with me on shoots to handle on site data transfers.Previously I had brought a 5400RPM Thunderbolt Drive with me on shoots and transferring 100 or so gigs of footage would take about 45 minutes to an hour. Sitting around and waiting for the footage to dump at the end of a long day is the last thing you want to do so I looked for other alternatives.I had a LaCie Rugged USB Thumbdrive that failed on me after about 2 months so I was hesitant to come back to the LaCie brand. But I said screw it, and went for it.And so far so good. It's survived a couple shoots and a few plane trips. It feels solid, and it's USB powered so it's truly portable. I haven't dropped it yet so I can't testify to it's durability in that regard. It's cut down data transfer speeds to "is this real life?" levels. 100 gigs takes 5-10... 5/5 El Duderino - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I'm a media professional. Awesome!

5/5 Wilson A - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LaCie Rugged Triple USB 3.0 Firewire 800 2 TB 9000448 (Personal Computers) Awesome! It was plug and go -- the Firewire makes it fast. Looks, feels and functions solid. I like the energy saving mode where it slows the fan(?) when the drive is on idle for awhile and it doesnʻt get hot. Unlike some others where the device starts to get really hot even with the fan on when connected for a long period.Worth its cost. One point, though, be sure to write down the serial number thatʻs on the box... before throwing it away. You will not find it on the device when you register it, unless you open the casing, which would break your manufacturerʻs warranty. Great Drive for Time Machine

5/5 Abracadbra - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: (OLD MODEL) LaCie Rugged Triple USB 3.0 Firewire 800 1 TB 301984 (Personal Computers) I've used LaCie Rugged's as my drive of choice for Time Machine backups for a number of years. I've graduated from the 250MB to the 500MB to the 1TB versions as I've upgraded my Macs. You just have to be certain that your computer has the correct ports, or that you order the correct adapter cables prior to setting up the drive. My backup stays behind for the day when I take my laptop to work, and the backups kick in again when I return home -- but the LaCie is rugged enough to travel wherever you go. So I have had this for exactly 28 months running it on my iMac 24/7 to update a few times a day via Time Machine. Over the course of using it there were periods of time were the iMac couldn't mount it to the computer. No big deal....I would format it and backup the computer as I really had no use for older backups (the most recent backups are what I have this for). Anytime my computer crashed and the hard drive had to be deleted was not an issue because when I tapped into the Time Machine and restored to the latest backup it would be like the crash never happened. Ok so what's with the 3 star? My computer recently crashed and it took down the backup drive with it. There has to be some type of separation between the backup drive and the hard drive. Fortunately I was able to manually get all the data back on my computer through the hard drive so not all was lost however it wouldn't let me restore through Time Machine therefore I had to install all the softwares over again and... 3/5 AlexADN - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 3/5 Matthew - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: (OLD MODEL) LaCie Rugged Triple USB 3.0 Firewire 800 1 TB 301984 (Personal Computers) Did not come formatted correctly to go through the autosetup. Had to re-partition and format hard drive manually. LaCie software available is essentially useless. Probably 20% of the time it will not eject from the computer or takes sometime before it will let me eject it. Haven't had any problems with data being corrupted with it though. I got 2 of these, one is formatted for mac and never have had any problems, the other is FAT32 (the one I have problems with) but neither have lost any data. I use them for picture and video storage and moving from mac to pc and pc to pc. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 28, 2016

The best portable hard drive you could ever buy!

5/5 dennis - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LaCie USB 3.0 1TB Rugged Mini Hard Drive with Case Logic Portable Hard Drive Case (Black) (Electronics) I purchased my hard drive about a month ago. Let me start off with shipping was quicker than expected. The hard drive was really easy to set up and if you use a mac and pc, you could divide the memory space to what ever you desire. I've taken this with me in a trip to Philippines and it came in handy for uploading all my visor and photo footages. No problem going thru tsa X-ray checks too. I highly recommend this hard drive and I would give this 5 more extra stars if available. The product speaks for its self.
