Very quickly the cord seems finicky. It will be connected to my computer and read disconnected with even the slightest touch or bump. I am not sure if this is an uncommon issue or not or I can get a cord replacement but it's extremely irritating. This review is from: LaCie Rugged Mini USB 3.0 / USB 2.0 2TB External Hard Drive (9000298) (Personal Computers) Nice, compact, portable, well padded. Used with a Mac that has USB 3.0, it is also fast; obviously, it would not be nearly so nice with an older Mac under USB 2.0.About the only flaw is the rather odd LaCie software. It doesn't do much that you can't do with Apple's software alone, aside from have desktop icons that match the drive. The instructions on how to use the LaCie software would be better served with instructions on how to plug in the drive and use OS X's Disk Utility. Easy to use and looks sturdy

So far, this HD is working as hoped for. It provided easy to follow steps to format and partition it for MAC. But I was disappointed to find on a YouTube video from a guy who put a very informative video on using Time Machine and recommended two HD's not to get, this one being one of them. He said that when these crash, it's really difficult to take apart to try to retrieve the data without breaking it. With that said, I'd recommend having another backup if you plan on using this to replace the HD on your computer (probably a good idea anyway, regardless of which external you use). One little annoying problem that I've been having is that just moving the HD a little while it's connected will prompt my computer into thinking that I tried removing it. I get a warning saying that I disconnected it improperly and that the next time I reconnect it, it will try to recover what might have been damaged. I use my laptop on my lap, and the cord to this HD is pretty short, so... 4/5 Susan - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Time is Money.

I'm a media professional. I work with a lot of RED footage, project files, and music. I need a reliable, fast, and portable drive to take with me on shoots to handle on site data transfers.Previously I had brought a 5400RPM Thunderbolt Drive with me on shoots and transferring 100 or so gigs of footage would take about 45 minutes to an hour. Sitting around and waiting for the footage to dump at the end of a long day is the last thing you want to do so I looked for other alternatives.I had a LaCie Rugged USB Thumbdrive that failed on me after about 2 months so I was hesitant to come back to the LaCie brand. But I said screw it, and went for it.And so far so good. It's survived a couple shoots and a few plane trips. It feels solid, and it's USB powered so it's truly portable. I haven't dropped it yet so I can't testify to it's durability in that regard. It's cut down data transfer speeds to "is this real life?" levels. 100 gigs takes 5-10... 5/5 El Duderino - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I'm a media professional. Awesome!

5/5 Wilson A - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LaCie Rugged Triple USB 3.0 Firewire 800 2 TB 9000448 (Personal Computers) Awesome! It was plug and go -- the Firewire makes it fast. Looks, feels and functions solid. I like the energy saving mode where it slows the fan(?) when the drive is on idle for awhile and it doesnʻt get hot. Unlike some others where the device starts to get really hot even with the fan on when connected for a long period.Worth its cost. One point, though, be sure to write down the serial number thatʻs on the box... before throwing it away. You will not find it on the device when you register it, unless you open the casing, which would break your manufacturerʻs warranty. This review is from: LaCie Rugged Mini USB 3.0 / USB 2.0 4TB External Hard Drive (LAC9000633) With Ivation Compact Portable Hard Drive Case (Small) (Electronics) So I'm a photographer who spends a lot of time on the road and in rough areas. I picked this up before a trip to the southwest as I wanted something a little rugged. As for the drive itself, it works perfectly. Its taken a few small drops and still works good. The case thats included is great and an easy way to keep the drive and cable together. The port on the drive however has already almost failed the cable barely stays in with the plastic cover on the drive, without it the cable still slips out every once and a while. Kind of disappointed by that as I had high hopes for this drive. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , March 10, 2017
