The iPad for Photographers, Master the Newest Tool in your Camera Bag

Creator: Jeff Carlson | Photography - 2013-05-16

For example, I talked about using the Seagate GoFlex Satellite drive to make wireless backups of photos from the app; however, a bug in the GoFlex firmware cropped up that corrupted data transfers (and Seagate never bothered to address it) ...

    Overpriced but works

3/5 KeraC - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable USB 3.0 - STAE104 (Personal Computers) Less than a year after I got a Seagate EHD I accidentally dropped it and ultimately discovered that a new adapter was needed. I agree with "Daniel Smith" that this product is far overpriced. At the time I purchased it, it was for $32.95 (shipping to where I live about doubled that price) and I was pretty peeved that I had to pay that amount when a similar non-proprietary product would've cost much MUCH less. I feel bad for persons who have to pay nearly $60 now. The item came in the package as shown, but the adapter's USB cord was detachable - which made storage much easier. It looked identical to my first adapter, but once inserted it didn't have a seamless attachment - i.e. it was securely fitted but didn't look that way., May 11, 2014

2/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable USB 3.0 - STAE104 (Personal Computers) For starters, the product was not new. At least provide with a description to point out that it is not new. I can see the small wear (scratches) that comes from a used product. It fits tightly into my hard drive which is fine. But I wanted to buy one because my previous one (USB 2.0) chipped off. As I tried out the product and connected to my computer, I began to think: how long will this USB 3.0 last if its been used. I am only upset that I did not know of this. Also the second picture, NO! it did not come in a box. It came in a bag. Picture and Information misleading. Works with all 2.5" SATA drives =)

5/5 Jon - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Upgrade Cable USB 3.0 - STAE104 (Personal Computers) I purchased this connector as a gamble - I wanted an easy way to access all the different 2.5" drives I have accumulated over recent years. I looked at the pictures closely and the connection appeared to be just a standard SATA connection, so I ordered it and waited.I am pleased to say it works a charm - I just plug it directly into a naked 2.5" SATA hard drive and connect the usb plug to my computer and it is instantly recogised - result! So yes, you can use this connector with any drive of this type - it doesn't need to be a Seagate one. Working, but beware of bad sectors; always keep backups!

I received this drive 8 months ago and it is still working in an acceptable manner by my standards. For more details, please continue reading.Having recently re-browsed the Amazon reviews for this product, I saw some people complaining that their drive had failed after x months having ordered it around the same time as me. This prompted me to fully check my drive's health so that I could at least be reassured that it is in full working order for the time being. I ran a read test on Windows using HD Tune Pro since that's where my drive was plugged in at the time, and the results (shown in as screenshots attached to this review) show the drive did in fact contain some bad sectors.I ran a non-destructive write test using badblocks on Linux which, for each sector, will first read the sector and store it in memory, then write a random pattern, then read this pattern back and make sure it matches the pattern that was written, and finally restore the original contents... 4/5 Milos Ivanovic (Auckland, New Zealand) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Died during backup after less than 2 hours.

I was pleased to initially get this backup HDD, it is small, portable, clean design, with a nice black color. It was packed in an easy to open and protective box and the basic instructions were simple and clear, plug the HDD into your computer with the accompanying cord and download the Seagate Dashboard application to begin backing up. I did just that, and initially seemed to be up to a great start. The Dashboard app isn't fancy, but appeared to be sufficient to get the job done. However, fast forward about 2 hours to ~80% backed up, and the HDD starts to occasionally beep. I was not aware the drive had any speakers so inititally I figured I had heard something outside my house. Gradually over the next 10 minutes the beeping became more and more frequent until it was obvious they were coming from the drive and were coming out about every second. I also noticed at this point the drive was no longer backing up. Thinking something was amiss, I unplugged the drive, restarted... 1/5 Amazon Addict (USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Drive Great Speed

This is a great drive. I just purchased my 4th one and haven't had any issues with the sleep problem everyone is talking about (I'm running a PC, Windows 7). I Don't run seagates software however so don't know if this is contributing to the issue (Tech support in another review stated this feature was adjustable or could be turned off via there seagate dashboard software). Speed is greaaaattt. I can keep a consistent transfer speed above 90 MB (Usually resides around 98 MB/S with peaks of 112MB), and I can achieve this between two of them on the Same USB3.0 controller (Using a USB 3.0 Hub). I use all types of drives from all the manufacturers, and Honestly, I normally haven't been impressed with Seagate in the past, however this unit is just rock solid, fast, consistent, and easy to install. One caveat I ran across is installing more than 1 of the same drives on your computer can sometimes be difficult as it uses the same identifier to Windows Drive Management, so... 5/5 longtimereader - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 50/50 chance 1 TB STAC1000101 will work

Bought one of these at Best Buy, the other at OfficeMax around Labor Day taking advantage of price match & deals.I have a new Dell XPS 8300, Windows 7 64-bit OS, I5-2400 CPU & 8GB of ram. The drives are connected to a Buffalo Tech USB 3.0 PCI-E card with two ports.Drive #1 (made in China) bought at OfficeMax screamed out of the gates in file transfers from SATA3 & SATA2 internal drives in my computer via USB 3.0. I transferred a single 6 GB file in less than a minute. Transferred the same size file from an external SATA2 Hitachi using an eSata cable out to my Dell in just slightly more time (1:08).However, the more files and varying sizes you transfer at one time does affect (slows) performance speed. So there is some give & take here and perhaps that is to be expected.Drive goes to "sleep" and comes out without any of the other reported problems you may have read.BTW # 1: I have disabled all of the installed software that came... 4/5 late night fan (los angeles) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Serious problems with the 3TB USB 3 GoFlex Drive

I bought 3 at the same time thinking that what can be wrong!I was able to copy 2.5 TB from a friend drive to one of these 3 drives. It took about 2 days but this was very fast because it took 2.5 days when I copied the same to a 3TB WD drive.I was able to use the first drive for karaoke once in a while in the first 2 months. Then suddenly I could no longer see the drive in Windows (This PC has Windows 7, 32-bit). Since then I could never get the drive to work except for a single time when it was recognized but hung quickly while a video file was being played. At that time, I couldn't shut down Windows without unplugging the drive power. All other times, I could see the left most LED on but the drive did not even seem to run.For the second drive, I wanted to use it to back up a 0.5 TB system image of another PC that had Windows 7 64-bit. The Windows backup ran for 2 days but I could see that not much data was copied so I cancelled the backup thinking... 1/5 Christopher Chu - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Exceptional little piece of Hardware

I read nearly all the reviews on this little tool and decided that more than enough folks had found it functional to take a chance on it. Not much of a chance really as it costs next to nothing. If it didn't work, no great loss. If it did, then a great buy... Work? Oh yeah! Right out of the box this minuscule unit hooked up to 11 different old hard drives that have been sitting in a box for as much as 18 years in one case. Worked with every single one of them! Set up and connection is child's play for a lobotomized sea slug. Someone in one review complained that the instructions weren't adequate. Apparently that reviewer is the type of person who has issues with 'Insert tab A into slot B'. It's that simple. All you need to be aware of with older drives is the jumper position ( remember jumpers? ). With Western Digital brand drives, remove the jumper entirely for 'Single'. On the other brands I had ( Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum), I found that setting the jumper to 'Master' was... 5/5 R. West (New Hampshire, USA) - See all my reviews, February 18, 2016
