Texas student dies after swallowing a bag of meth

  • After finding a small amount of marijuana as well as pipes and drug paraphernalia in the car, the deputy arrested Richardson and Keife. The Daily Mail  notes  that Keife drove the car for about a mile after the deputy initially began flashing his lights. resident died after consuming a baggie of methamphetamine when police pulled over the car in which was a passenger, reports The Beaumont Enterprise. At some presumably panicked point before the traffic stop, Richardson swallowed the baggie of meth. Things began to go very badly for Richardson by the time police had brought her to jail a few minutes later. She was pronounced dead at 4:30 a. m. on July 6. On Friday, a Washington County sheriff’s deputy pulled the car over at 2:45 p. m. on U. S. 290 about 70 miles northwest of Houston.

Which brand of external hard drive do you recommend?

I would like to get an external hard drive for my downloaded movies. Which brand would you recommend? I was looking at a 4 TB Western Digital My Book Essential eternal hard drive at Staples.com. Is that a good choice?

Yes it is a good choice...

Is it safe to run two to four 3 TB Western Digital My Book Essentials at once on one desktop computer?

I'll be connecting them to "PCI-e to USB 3.0" expansion cards. Is that safe? Do I need addtional power supplies to supply power to the expansion cards in order to power the My Book Essential hard drives that are connected to them? One more question. Is it OK to connect and disconnect My Book Essential hard drives from the computer regularly? I will be doing this if running 2-4 of them together is not a desirable option.

It is safe. They are not drawing power from the PC's power supply, they have external power sources. Before you disconnect the drives during the time your computer's OS is running, you should "eject" the drive by clicking the arrow next to the drive name in your file manager, or right-click it and select "eject".

Take Control of Your Wi-Fi Security

Creator: Glenn Fleishman, Adam C. Engst | Computers - 2007

The book is a marvel of excellent technical writing for a general audience." --Barry Campbell on Blogcritics.org Read this book to learn the answers to questions like: Should I worry about someone eavesdropping on my home wireless network?

Publisher: TidBITS

About this book
Learn how to keep intruders out of your wireless network and protect your sensitive communications! It's ten o'clock--do you know who's using your wireless network? If you haven't changed the default network name or admin password someone could be eavesdropping on your email, plucking your passwords out of the air, or sending spam through your Internet connection right now! When you're using a wireless network--whether a Macintosh with AirPort gear or Windows with any Wi-Fi equipment--you're exposed to risk unless you take steps. Wireless networking experts Glenn Fleishman and Adam Engst have spent years researching and covering wireless security issues on Glenn's Wi-Fi Networking News blog and in two editions of The Wireless Networking Starter Kit. Now they've distilled that experience into this essential guide for anyone using a computer with wireless networks, whether at home, at work, or on the road. You'll learn how to evaluate your real security risks; the best way to restrict access to your network using WPA and WPS; how to secure your data in transit with PGP, SSL, SSH, and VPNs; and how to protect your computers from viruses and attacks. The book provides extra advice on how to secure small-office wireless network, including details on choosing VPN hardware and software and on setting up 802.1X for secure Wi-Fi logins. "The authors, two guys with enormous geek credibility, take the confusing tangle of Wi-Fi security issues and break it down for you in plain language. The book is a marvel of excellent technical writing for a general audience." --Barry Campbell on Blogcritics.org Read this book to learn the answers to questions like: Should I worry about someone eavesdropping on my home wireless network? What three security measures should I take immediately to lock down my wireless gateway? What common security measures aren't worthwhile? Why is WEP not worth bothering with, and what should I use instead? How do I set up guest networking on the 2009 dual-band AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule models? How do I set up WPS on Apple and non-Apple gear? What does it mean if I see green shading in my browser's URL field? Do I need a VPN to protect my sensitive work communications? What is sidejacking, and what should I do about it? Can I control access to my wireless network by user name and password? What software can I use for secure email and file transfer? How does public-key encryption work? Our office has only 15 people--can we afford the best Wi-Fi security?

Drive works fine, but beware included utility software

Based on the drive itself and the backup software, I would have given this product 5 stars--it is very quiet in operation, quiet enough to be left running full time on your desk. The easy-to-use included backup software can continually backup files each time there is a change or you add a new one (or you can choose to do periodic backups), and even automatically can keep up to 25 earlier versions of files that you've modified (you set the number archived). Why then only 3 stars? Because the drive comes with drive utility software that has a glitch. After installing the drive, before doing anything else, I ran the drive diagnostics; it passed the SMART Status and Quick Drive tests (both very quick to run), but about 30% of the way through failed the Complete Drive Test, which takes hours to run. I ran all the tests again, got identical results, then called WD tech support. Based on my results, they said the drive was defective, and that I should return it to Amazon, which I did... 3/5 Footprinter - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Another solid WD product

I purchased this drive largely based upon a specific need for a USB 3.0 product with 4TB of storage. I've owned many WD internal and external HD products over time and have not had any drive failures to date over many years. I purchased this drive specifically as a backup storage drive attached to a Synology 1813+ NAS unit. This required a reformat to EXT4 as the drive comes natively formated in NTFS. The Synology NAS schedules backup to this drive of selected folder shares using the "Time Backup" software available from Synology. I'm not utilizing any of the software included from WD with this drive (backup, cloud, etc.) as the Synology NAS has its own software for each of these purposes. The drive itself is similar in size to other My Book drives. The plastic casing is certainly not as nice as the aluminum finish on the WD My Book drives that I have for my Macs, but it is similar to the black of the Synology unit and overall looks good. The power adapter is... 5/5 Joe (Midwest, USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) How to format for Mac & be sure to check the prices.

Be sure to check the various sizes, as the larger drives sometimes are only a few dollars more. In recommend getting the biggest drive you can afford as sometime you may/will need it. The 3TB drive was only $20 more than the 2TB drive which isn't much for 50% more space. If you're a Mac user setting up or erasing a flash, thumb or hard drive up with your computer is super easy follow these steps.1. Plug in the the drive2. Open up disk utility found in your applications folder inside the utilities folder3. Next select the newly plugged in a hard drive and on the right-hand side you should see partition click on that.4. Then inside that screen on the partition layout drop-down choose how many partitions you'd like to set up. I generally go with one partition and just use folders to organize my files.5. Then on the right-hand side you can name the partitions and select the format. If you are transferring video files I highly recommend you... 4/5 Chuck Bittner "Disabled comedian & gamer!" Extremely flimsy usb3 connector design - BUYER BEWARE

This applies to the My Book USB3 2TB drive.First the good stuff -It is a nice fast drive. HDTune showed and average speed around 90-100MB/s when connected to a USB3 port on my Lenovo W510 laptop. That is why I bought the thing, and it works well. I had NO trouble accessing the drive (but then I reformatted it completely and did not see any issues with the CD partition etc..).Note: I needed to update the USB3 drivers on my W510 to get it to be recognized consistently by Windows 7. That is likely an issue with the Win7 NEC USB3 drivers preinstalled on my Lenovo, and nothing to do with the WD drive. Now the awful part:After about 4 months of usage, the USB3 female connector in the cabinet came loose - and was stuck to the USB3 cable when I removed it!I have owned close to ten different WD external USB drives from ~320GB and up to 2TB drives. I have six of these drives. I have had no serious problems to date, the oldest I've owned for about four months now. I've done this a bunch of times now, so I'm getting routine at it, and thought I'd write it out for others. Some caveats, for what it might be worth:--I am running Windows 7 64-bit.--I use both 3.0 and 2.0 connectivity, depending on the computer I hook these up to.--I have no use for the included backup software, so I can't speak to that. Bad reviews are real - file I/O performance slows over time

I won't re-hash what others have said, but the drive I/O performance (or lack thereof) is a real problem - especially with Time Machine.I have this device hard-wired into my router (Gb connection) and my MacBook Pro is also hard-wired into the same router. My initial Time Machine backup went with reasonable speed, but subsequent, incremental updates to the drive started dragging. I found that if I reboot the WD MyBook Live, it works better for a period of time, but then slows down. With wired, Gb networking end-to-end the Time Machine performance should be on par with my 800Mb Firewire portable drive, but it's not even close. Even just copying files via the Mac Finder over the (wired) network to the drive is agonizingly slow. That said, however, their iPhone app and web-based access tools are some of the best I've seen from this product category, so I will keep the device and see if things improve with a future software update; hence the 3 stars... 3/5 Kenneth F. Bad Reviews Don't Reflect Latest Software

I found the product I got to be way better than the reviews indicated. The main reason seems to be software updates. You should really ignore any complaints you read about the device from 2010, and a lot of them from 2011. The physical hardware is just a basic drive with a processor and a network connection. What makes a difference is the software - both on the drive, and the mybooklive website/iphone apps. Most of the complaints I was worried about turned out to have been fixed in the latest software. For example: A review complained about iTunes media sharing being broken by the latest iTunes update - I had no problem doing iTunes media sharing with the latest iTunes. A review complained about the Mio-net connectivity - This device no longer uses Mio-net.The mybooklive website lets you map your home mybook live drive as a network drive from any computer away from home. Works great for Sonos..

Yesterday I purchased one of these drives to use as a Network Attached Storage drive for my Sonos music system. This drive is perfect for that setup and exceeded my expectations. The setup for this drive is a snap. My PC and Sonos system recognized it with zero issues. The drive throughput is about 70Mb/s which is plenty for my purposes. Also (and a key feature for Sonos), this drive will spin down after inactivity and will even let you set how long it waits before spinning down (have not seen any other drive in this price range which will do that). Also, this drive comes pre-formatted with an NTFS file system so no reformatting is needed like with most external drives. Having a drive with NAS capabilities is excellent because you need less hardware to make the drive available to Sonos. Lastly, because the drive doesn't have an on/off switch, you won't have to worry if you lose power that you'll have to turn this back on (like with the old Linksys NSLU2).The only reason I... 4/5 Thomas B Goodloe "Berkeley Goodloe" (Richmond, VA United States) - See all my reviews, October 28, 2010

The gauge of the wire seems much thicker than the original adapter, and the flexible rubber connector where the wire comes out of the adapter is well-designed. I was a little hesitant to spend so much money on an adapter, but considering that Radio Shack charges $40 for something that looked much cheaper, it is a pretty good deal after all. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 7, 2011

So he found this one and it works great. Thanks! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 11, 2010
