    Insufficient Power

This is a very nice looking, compact drive with a large storage capacity. I now look at it as a mega USB drive. However, my original reason for wanting one was as a single-PC backup storage for critical files and it just doesn't have the stability for that. The device features a single mini-USB to USB connection (cable included) to provide data transfer and power to the drive. This unfortunately means that the drive can come into scenarios where there isn't enough power coming to it that it can be detected by your PC. This is especially the case if you try to plug it into a USB hub.Plugging mine directly into the PC fixed the problem for me but required me to put my device in an inconvenient location.I like the form factor on this guy and I think the synchronization software would be handy for other people, but I should have purchased a... 2/5 Matt Eland (Columbus, OH USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 4/5 DMR008 (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Western Digital My Passport Essential 160GB USB 2.0 2.5" External Hard Drive (Black) (Electronics) I'm very pleased with this purchase. The drive is quite portable, and extremely easy to use. I've had no problems with it at all, and like the file transfer speeds. For some reason, the Western Digital software that comes installed in this drive won't install on my pc. So I really have no idea whether there are some good features I'm missing out on. For this reason, I gave the product 4 stars out of 5. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 4, 2008

Excellent Hard Drive for PS3 and Laptops

First of all, there used to be two product listings for this hard drive, both identical except for the ASIN numbers. One was listed as the stand alone, the other was listed in the Western Digital Scorpio Blue page with the pull-down menu that has all the different sized drives in the series. I have no idea what the difference is. Amazon, for some reason, took down the 500 GB listing from the pull-down menu and it now has it's own page. Odd they chose that direction. It would have made more sense to remove the individual listing.Ok, this is for PS3 owners/upgraders. This drive fits the PS3 wonderfully and runs nice and cool with no issues. For the price you can't go wrong. I have the 40 GB PS3 (Spider Man 3 bundle) and have the data (saves + install) of about 10 games and I was running out of space. I did a lot of research of the various SATA 2.5" laptop hard drives available. I researched all the various brands and compared reviews and prices vs size. I came to the... 5/5 MoogleMan - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great upgrade for the MacBook Aluminum...

I bought the new MacBook Aluminum (13" - Late 2008), with the 160GB hard drive, which quickly fell short to my storage demands. While on the market for an upgrade hard drive, I came across the WD 500GB Scorpio Blue and hesitant at first (I could not find anywhere a post which would guarantee that it would work with my MB), I decided to go for it. Upon receiving my hard drive, I ran the Time Machine on my MB, switched the OEM hard drive for this beauty (it took about 15 mins.), installed Leopard from the DVD that came with my MB, and then restored from the most recent TM backup (installing the OS took about 10 mins, and restoring the backup took about 2 hrs - it was a 140GB backup!). So far, I've had no problems whatsoever using the drive. It is very quiet, does not heat up excesively (comparable actually to the original hard drive), and now I have a MB with a 500GB drive!!!I am extremely satisfied with this drive, and would definitely recomend it to any MB/MBPro owner who... 5/5 Juan Aguirre (Guatemala, Central America) - See all my reviews, January 16, 2009

Received A Refurbished Hard Drive Instead of a Drive in a New Condition

First, the label on this drive is not blue. The model # is WD3200BEVT-75ZCT0 which looks to be a blue drive after a few searches.Secondly, The Product Description gave no impression that this HDD was REFURBISHED and NOT NEW!I would not have bought this product for my project. This hard-drive had been previously wiped/erased. This was evident from the Blanco Hardware Information Report that is displayed on the computer's screen when no setup media is inserted into the computer. A new hard drive should make the BIOS display "OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND".The Blanco Hardware Information Report confused me at first because I'm working on a client's Toshiba laptop. The Report states it was [wiped/erased by] a Dell OptiPlex 745 with a Pentium D 2.8GHz, with serial #F1XFCC1. Well that is NOT the machine I was working on, that was for sure.A quick Google search for "Blanco Hardware Information Report" shows a forum post with the... 1/5 Mike - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) These drives are USED!

1/5 Positronic (West Coast) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Western Digital Caviar WD1600BB 160GB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (Electronics) The drive I received on October 8, 2012 was dated 27 Feb. 2006 and was not in a sealed bag as is normally used by Western Digital. It does not have a refurbished sticker so I can only assume that the vendor is repacking USED hard drives and selling them as new. I just checked WD's site and the warranty expired 3/20/2009 - so there is NO manufacturer warranty! The vendor should immediately change the Amazon listing to reflect these are USED drives. I ran a full WD scan on the drive and it did test fine. There are not many IDE drives available anymore but still the vendor should advertise if they're new or not.4/30/13 update - I bought the drive for the cost of a new drive, about $45. Now with the price at $12 or $13 at least you're paying the price for a used drive so not as bad. Defective drives.

1/5 Jimmy D. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Western Digital Caviar WD1600BB 160GB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (Electronics) The drives were not packaged right. The padding was only some bubbles on the top of the box. No padding at all on the bottom or sides. The drives were loose and moving freely inside, bumping it each other. There was no physical damage to the box or drives that I could see.5 out of the 8 drives were bad. When I installed them in my pc, My bios says Imminent failure to 3 and does not id 2 of them. I have tried to return them. The return form will not let me complete the form. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 30, 2015

    Buy Accessories is a sham

1/5 Pissed Off! Review should be 1/5 (Colorado) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Western Digital Caviar WD1600BB 160GB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (Electronics) Buy Accessories has a 21 day return policy. Just long enough to dump a hard drive on you that will crash in three or four months. I received two drives, both crashed. One was DOA, the other lasted about three months. I was a phone tech for Gateway Computers for over four years and I know a crashed drive. If you do buy this drive, listen for the telltale clicking of the read/write heads. This drive seems to be famous for it. The packaging was ridiculous. The bare drive wrapped in a little bubble wrap and squeezed into a flat rate shipping box. No way of telling what kind of abuse went on in the shipping process. Boo Buy Accessories, Boo!!!
