    Excellent, works perfectly with iMac

5/5 GoGirlGo - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: WD My Book Studio 2TB Mac External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0 (Personal Computers) I received this product yesterday and am very impressed with it. The outward appearance of sleek silver matches my new iMac perfectly. In fact, my smartalecy (ok, there's no such word) husband put an apple sticker on it, and it actually looks like an apple product. Very easy to hookup with a power AC cord and a USB cord. I plugged it in, and iMac immediately asked me if I wanted to use it for backup, which I did. It utilized USB 3.0 which is super fast, and I have a huge amount of files to back up, which it did nicely.2 Terabytes is plenty of space. I agree with another reviewer that this is indeed a great backup drive for Mac users. Quiet and Fast, you can't go wrong. My only issue is it's a bit pricey and it would be nice to see the price come down somewhat. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 28, 2012

Reliable, high capacity drives for Mac systems.

I only use these drives with Macintosh systems; one was a replacement for two Lacie Quadra drives which failed after 2-3 years use. As a precaution I reformat these drives to a known state using the Disk Utility software.I've used these Western Digital (WD) for several years without any failures. Two 4TB drives are used for general file storage and backups while another 6TB drive for video file storage. The drives also work flawlessly with Time Machine. The USB 3.0 interface is relatively fast, but backup times vary depending on the nature of the files being copied. For example, copy time for 100 GB took approximately 20 minutes. I've also noticed some increases in copy time when considerable file fragmentation is present on the receiving drive. Deletion of obsolete files and periodic file consolidation is done to address the slow performance induced by space fragmentation. Utility software (e.g., Tech Tool Pro) can be used periodically to "de-frag" a... 5/5 Deebz - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) My book studio 3 tb external hd is for perfect large files

4/5 Robo_Mac - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: WD My Book Studio 3TB Mac External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0 (Personal Computers) I haven't seen any cheap SSD drives with this much space, so I purchased the my book studio 3tb. It is fast enough for backing up files. I NEVER use back-up software like time machine etc for external drives. Anytime I read about problems with external drives, seems to be related to back up software that was installed. I just reformat the drive and drag and drop files on it.It looks like a silver book that is sitting up, with black pages. It is not too big and isn't noisy. There is a little hole on the bottom front, where the blue light shines through, when the drive is on.I don't see any switch to turn it off. I have to eject it from the desktop and pull out the power plug, from the back. It comes with a USB 3.0 cable too.edit: May 1, 2013, I do notice the fan noise now, I didn't notice it before. I guess when the weather got warmer, so did the Hard Drive? The fan noise isn't very loud, but it is noticeable. It's OK, but WD fails on the truth

Let me start off by saying, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and only know of how the device works on my setup. The NAS itself is quite nice. It's quiet, energy efficient and very simple to install. You just plug in a network cable and power, and wait until the light stops moving. Then browse to the admin web page and presto you got 3.8TB (RAID0) or 1.8TB(RAID1) to fill up.Windows 7 instantly saw this thing as a network resource and I was able to browse to it. I didn't know what IP it had taken from my DHCP server, but the index.html file that I saw on the drive redirected me to it without a problem. Overall a nice little NAS that serves up music, movies and stores backups for my whole household.I use the included Media Center and my wife uses XBMC on her WinXP laptop for movies, and we share a common library for music via iTunes. We can both be accessing different songs and/or movies without a single issue or skip...very nice! Now the... 3/5 Peter Beckley (United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Setup? What Set-up? Very Impressive NAS From Western Digital!

I received my World Edition II 2 TB NAS on 11/13! Opened the box, connected it to my router, powered it up and presto, my network discovered the new drive. Very shortly afterwards, I was transferring files! (I am running Windows Vista for reference). The web setup was amazingly simple... One point of caution, the basic setup flyer that comes with the drive does not mention the username and password which are admin, admin(You can of course change these once you are logged in)... Once I logged in I was able to establish a static IP address (you have the option of DHCP but I prefer to use static IPs). The drive also comes pre-configured for RAID 1 (Mirroring) which is exactly what I wanted for secure data protection/back-up. However, if you prefer to establish RAID 0 (Striping), then it's very easy to configure (just make sure that you do this before transferring any data to the drive). RAID 1 provides a total of 1TB of effective storage and RAID 0 provides a total of 2TB of... 5/5 Prime Customer (Towson, MD) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Poor Software

The software does not work with Vista 64. Vista 64 has been out for a very long time now == no excuse. You must download the whole thing from the internet before it will run. Then finally running, it is horribly slow. Over time memory leaks accumulate. You must reboot. Hang up and automatic restarts are things you just live with. Then the Ethernet bus hangs.. Router is OK software is confused again. Wait Wait Wait.My debug cannot be complete not set up for this debug. Looks like poor error handling. Armature get it out the door with a label that says it can do something (my guess). This type of unit is intended to work in environments that have a bad flue or cold. Robust error handling is essential. The idea is to "Recover". The software here still presents same errors even after disk wipe and new system installation. So I sprung for Acronis. Mush faster and hangs nearly gone. Acronis is harder to setup. Acronis is not optimized for "WorldBook II"... 2/5 Kindle Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
