About this book
Developed from the authors, combined total of 50 years undergraduate and graduate teaching experience, this book presents the finite element method formulated as a general-purpose numerical procedure for solving engineering problems governed by partial differential equations. Focusing on the formulation and application of the finite element method through the integration of finite element theory, code development, and software application, the book is both introductory and self-contained, as well as being a hands-on experience for any student. This authoritative text on Finite Elements:Adopts a generic approach to the subject, and is not application specificIn conjunction with a web-based chapter, it integrates code development, theory, and application in one bookProvides an accompanying Web site that includes ABAQUS Student Edition, Matlab data and programs, and instructor resourcesContains a comprehensive set of homework problems at the end of each chapterProduces a practical, meaningful course for both lecturers, planning a finite element module, and for students using the text in private study.Accompanied by a book companion website housing supplementary material that can be found at http://www.wileyeurope.com/college/FishA First Course in Finite Elements is the ideal practical introductory course for junior and senior undergraduate students from a variety of science and engineering disciplines.  The accompanying advanced topics at the end of each chapter also make it suitable for courses at graduate level, as well as for practitioners who need to attain or refresh their knowledge of finite elements through private study.

The Design of Design, Essays from a Computer Scientist

Creator: Frederick P. Brooks Jr. | Computers - 2010-03-22

But what do we really know about the design process? What leads to effective, elegant designs? The Design of Design addresses these questions. These new essays by Fred Brooks contain extraordinary insights for designers in every discipline.

Publisher: Pearson Education

About this book
Making Sense of Design   Effective design is at the heart of everything from software development to engineering to architecture. But what do we really know about the design process? What leads to effective, elegant designs? The Design of Design addresses these questions.   These new essays by Fred Brooks contain extraordinary insights for designers in every discipline. Brooks pinpoints constants inherent in all design projects and uncovers processes and patterns likely to lead to excellence. Drawing on conversations with dozens of exceptional designers, as well as his own experiences in several design domains, Brooks observes that bold design decisions lead to better outcomes.   The author tracks the evolution of the design process, treats collaborative and distributed design, and illuminates what makes a truly great designer. He examines the nuts and bolts of design processes, including budget constraints of many kinds, aesthetics, design empiricism, and tools, and grounds this discussion in his own real-world examples—case studies ranging from home construction to IBM’s Operating System/360. Throughout, Brooks reveals keys to success that every designer, design project manager, and design researcher should know.

    bring back the wired version

wireless is an nice occasional option but for an everyday setup on a computer, for gaming when response time is important or when fine movement is necessary, wireless is not ideal. the design overall is great, but the wired redball version is just smoother, the ball even sits better in its holster. I have the wired and wireless, and my wired one sees much much more use. but, it's getting a lil worn down. please, for the love of ergonomics, bring back the redball wired version!i'll buy 20 the first day, 10 for me and 10 to pass out to friends and spread the word. there's no way i can go back to using a regular mouse! how can you discontinue a perfect product like that?I've never found a better overall mouse for everything that can be done on a pc.for those amazon customers that agree with me, i also posted this review on logitech under the wireless version on this mouse. give it a thumbs up to show support and a thumbs up for all those that say the... 5/5 J. This review is from: Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical (Silver) (Personal Computers) I've been using a Trackman Wheel since 2004, this is the 2nd TW that i've purchased . The firstone got worn out; daily use/ packing and unpacking daily after 5 years it finally died. I find the TW to be very ergonomic and smooth tracking, less hand movement - you can place the TW anywhere unlike regular mouse. it's the best mouse i've ever laid my hands on, I can’t bring myself to even use anything else. Wish that they are still making the wire version.Pros:Easy to useSmooth trackingErgonomicLess hand movementProgramablePretty durableWorks on Mac and PC. no mouse pad neededCons:They're no longer being madeLogitech Logo wears off pretty fast*If you see one at a yard sale - make sure you snatch it up!*Works great on strategy game / Photo-editing, September 15, 2015

    Works perfectly

After the Mac wireless mouse and its replacement died, I went back to this trackball; my old standby. I should have done that sooner.Trackballs are inherently easier to use, take less desk space and are less likely to create a cord-tangle because they don't have to move to function.Perhaps it is in part due to the fact I played classical guitar and piano, but I find the thumb wheels FAR easier than any other method. Though I have tried other trackballs with the wheel in the center, this design seems more intuitive and "natural." (If one can describe anything computerized as "Natural.")In particular, I love the fact that I merely had to plug it in, and it immediately started working. No software installation, no CD insertion, no downloads, no upgrade offers no hidden software.... boom, it just works. The truly "plug-n-play" feature is probably just as important as its ergonomic design.I use the trackball for drawing with paint programs... 5/5 G. Conner (USA) - See all my reviews, July 16, 2010

    Works flawlessly on XP box.

I would have given this 5 stars had I not attempted to use this forst on a Vista box. My 2nd computer is set up in my shop exclusively for photo and video projects. It's not connected to the internet, so I periodically take it home to update Windows (Vista). When I got the Cavalry device, my most recent update was about two weeks old. The brand new Dell running on Vista just refuses to recognize this unit. I was about to send it back, when I decided to try it on my older Gateway XP box at home. Of course, it worked flawlessly... It was immediately recognized by XP.If I knew for certain that Vista was the culprit, I'd give this unit 5 stars. For what it's worth, I like the on/off switch. Some of my older drives never power down unless I pull the plug. Some newer drives recognise when the computer is calling for them and power on/off accordingly. Too slowly for my Vista box however. I prefer the control of powering on and off myself. For the... 4/5 Norm De Plume (Lake Forest, Illinois USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Beware this drive!

1/5 Amazon Customer (Dubois, WY) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Cavalry Storage CAUE Series 250 GB USB External Hard Drive CAUE37250 (Personal Computers) Bought this drive a couple months ago, should have known it was trouble when it got extremely hot to the touch and made a weird noise from the git-go! It seemed to transfer date quickly, but needed to be turned off when not in use due to the heat of the case.(Guess the power button was good for something!) Then, yesterday, after transferring some files I had spent about 8 hours cleaning up and consolidating,It Failed this morning... message consistently said disk was not formatted and my data was lost. Thank Goodness, I kept my original data on my desktop! This drive occupies a place in my garbage can as warranty work is usually too much of a run-around, and the product is useless. Don't get suckered in! I do have a different Cavalry ext. drive with an internal fan that has been a good product. I have used it for over a year.
