Good Drive, Not So Good Software

I had purchased a My Passport Elite previously due to MaximumPC's Best of the Best recommendations for the 320GB version. I liked the drive and the software. With a new laptop and needing more space to save work related files to along with backing up pics from it, I wanted a new drive. After purchasing it, I loaded the new software and ran the program. I set the program up and let it run, but I found no way to save the files I wanted (beside work files, I wanted to backup saved game files as I also game on my laptop when I am on the road). I even related how the software from the previous versions of My Passport Elite was better software for backup when I registered the drive with WD.I purchase WD drives due to their reliability and so far, I haven't had any problems with it as I expected. While I haven't tried to remove the stock software, I am considering purging the original backup and installing the older software onto my laptop and using it instead to create backups... 4/5 WhiteKnight77 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) But, there are a couple of things......

After a great deal of research, I purchased this Western Digital My Passport Elite 320 GB external hard drive since it seemed the best choice based on the manufacturer's reputation, portability, capacity and price. My main interest was in a product that would allow me to back up important data and the auto back-up feature was a definite plus. Although I presently run Windows XP Home, I purposely waited until I saw a hard drive that would handle Windows 7 in case I soon update my operating system or purchase a new PC.Overall, I like the product in that it connects very easily and through a USB connection, it copies very quickly. The "docking station" is, also, a nice feature since you can leave the station connected but remove the drive from it and take it with you to any other location. All you need to use it is a USB cable. I did, however, encounter a couple of problems, to which Western Digital has been very responsive.First, the "WD SmartWare" (software that... 4/5 Bob M (Annapolis.
