2 USB cables not a sign of a deficiency

The Iomega "eGo" in silver is going for almost half the price of the same drive in red, so not only is it a great match for most Macbooks but it's among the lowest-priced hard drives available. The size and look practically make it as close a match to the Macbook Air as the drive Iomega made specifically to complement the latter machine (the Ego has a glossier finish than the brushed-metal look of the the same company's "Helium," the name of the drive being marketed as the Mac Air's ideal mate).Bear in mind that the drive comes formatted for a Windows machine. The included instructions are clear and, assuming you'll have no difficulty accessing Disc Utility from your Applications folder, should enable formatting the drive for use with an Apple computer (including setting it up for Time Machine back-ups) in 5 minutes or less.As a previous reviewer pointed out, the included cable has two USB plugs rather than one, the idea being that, should it be needed, the... 4/5 Samuel C. excellent gift

I have one of my own eGo Drives and knew this would be the perfect gift for a friend who is a photographer. He takes lots and lots of digital pictures and needs a place to transfer those files to a SAFE place. I often burn data DVDs to make sure his creations are safe for posterity. Having a portable drive means he can do some of this backing up. Not to mention that he can carry around these images to other places and other computers. As I already have an eGo drive I know how reliable they are. I've had mine for years. I use it on Windows (2000, XP, Win7), Linux (Ubuntu) and have connected to my brother's MAC - with not a single problem. My experience with Iomega dates back to the 1990's when I purchased a JAZ drive, then a ZIP drive. I always found there products reliable. They know Portable!I know some people are confused by the "Y" USB connectors. If you have a new system just use the main (longer cord) connectors. New computers have enough power in the USB... 5/5 cecilia - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Very disappointed

I had read great reviews on this hard drive and bought several to send to my relatives to accumulate photographs of a very memorable family trip. However these drives where not "plug and play" as most other brands are. I spent countless hours trying to re-assign (per the Iomega website) the drive only to have it greyed out with no other options. I followed every one of their steps as well as some of my relatives only to have the drive unrecognized. I am very disappointed as this is an after hours project for me and Iomega support is not available. I also spent hours searching the internet for solutions to this issue with no better results. Unfortunately now I have an unusable hard drive with no support from Iomega as you cannot download any additional tools or drivers to assist. As a side note, I found out recently that my company tried to deploy them to appx. 100 users and had the same issue in addition to the issue of which plug in device to use as the... 1/5 M.
