    Time is Money.

I'm a media professional. I work with a lot of RED footage, project files, and music. I need a reliable, fast, and portable drive to take with me on shoots to handle on site data transfers.Previously I had brought a 5400RPM Thunderbolt Drive with me on shoots and transferring 100 or so gigs of footage would take about 45 minutes to an hour. Sitting around and waiting for the footage to dump at the end of a long day is the last thing you want to do so I looked for other alternatives.I had a LaCie Rugged USB Thumbdrive that failed on me after about 2 months so I was hesitant to come back to the LaCie brand. But I said screw it, and went for it.And so far so good. It's survived a couple shoots and a few plane trips. It feels solid, and it's USB powered so it's truly portable. I haven't dropped it yet so I can't testify to it's durability in that regard. It's cut down data transfer speeds to "is this real life?" levels. 100 gigs takes 5-10... 5/5 El Duderino - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I'm a media professional. 5/5 Wilson A - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LaCie Rugged Triple USB 3.0 / Firewire 800 2TB Portable Hard Drive LAC9000448 (Personal Computers) Awesome! It was plug and go -- the Firewire makes it fast. Looks, feels and functions solid. I like the energy saving mode where it slows the fan(?) when the drive is on idle for awhile and it doesnÊ»t get hot. Unlike some others where the device starts to get really hot even with the fan on when connected for a long period.Worth its cost. One point, though, be sure to write down the serial number thatÊ»s on the box... before throwing it away. You will not find it on the device when you register it, unless you open the casing, which would break your manufacturerÊ»s warranty. 2/5 Kristy Moreno - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 2TB Portable Hard Drive STEV2000400 (Personal Computers) I had just transferred over about 500GB worth of music and video and it was working really fast. Couldn't have been happier. Then on the 3rd day of ownership it randomly said I unsafely ejected it, but it was still plugged in and sitting on the desk. Then it came back for an hour and worked normally. Then it randomly said unsafely ejected again. It hasn't worked from that point on. Officially a brick after 3 days of NON Rugged usage (sitting on a desk). Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 7, 2017

Not as fast as lead to believe!

3/5 Country Girl (Alaska) - See all my reviews I purchased this drive specifically to run virtual OS's from. Having a Thunderbolt connection is exactly what I wished for the USB 3 is a bonus. I noticed however that performance was lacking and not as I expected. Taking a look at the hard drive installed I was sadly disappointed to find a SATA II 5400rpm drive with nothing better then an 8mb cache. Why have a fantastic connection to the computer and then cripple this device with an old, inexpensive, poor performing hard drive? For this reason alone I rate this device with only 3 stars. What a disappointment. Now I also get to purchase a new hard drive and install it so this enclose can perform as advertised. I feel greatly misled by the promised quick performance advertising Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 7, 2014

    Slow

1/5 Human Shopper - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Using this drive over thunderbolt and getting very poor speeds. Not asking a lot out of it, some non HQ pro res files and lesser and it just can't handle it. I have a couple thunderbolt non raid drives and this is by far the slowest of the bunch. Caveat emptor - Danger Will Robinson - dodgy product!

    ### DO NOT BUY ###Very Sad, bought this item being more concerned about utility than price and what a lemon... The seller was ace, shipping very nice and well packaged. Took the HD out of the box & it worked straight away on my desk into my 2013 mac air i7, (both drive and computer were on the same surface, well ventilated, no direct sunlight). After 8 hours there was the fateful 'disk removed incorrectly' message (using Thunderbolt port) since then it has demounted another 6 or 7 times including using the USB 3.0 cable. Personally I think they have skimped on the cable/plugs that is causing these faults but that is just a guess. Am running the latest OS etc.As a side note, I went into the Apple store on Broadway UWS and the tech there said it is the most returned HD they have and they will not be continued for too much longer in Apple stores. This is the main reason I post "Do not Buy"...I was trying to back up music/videos and photos as... 1/5 Mark Warne-Smith - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) ### DO NOT BUY ###Very Sad, bought this item being more concerned about utility than price and what a lemon... Perfect for what I needed it for.

5/5 I like buying stuff (California) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LaCie Rugged All-Terrain 500 GB 7200 rpm eSATA/USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive 301905 (Personal Computers) I have an HP ProBook 4420s installed with SUSE Linux at it works great but I wanted to also have Windows to use iTunes and play video games. I did not want to have to install windows on the internal drive; I wanted to install windows on an external drive. This drive works perfectly for me:I installed Windows 7 Pro x64I use the Powered eSATA port on the ProBook so I only need one cable to connect the drive to the computer. The eSATA drive is set higher on the boot priority so when it is plugged in I boot Windows and when it's unplugged it boots into Linux. :) Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 10, 2010

    Lightening Fast

5/5 MW Brown (Bangkok, Thailand) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: LaCie Rugged All-Terrain 500 GB 7200 rpm eSATA/USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive 301905 (Personal Computers) When using the eSATA connection, this harddrive is the fastest external harddrive I've ever owned. The construction clearly leaves the impression that it is intended for action (even so, I'm not going to tempt it by knocking it around). I've used many other LaCie drives in my former employment and they have always been of highest quality. I'm expecting the same long-term experience with this on. I am always happy to recommend LaCie drives to anyone needing a quality external harddrive. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 17, 2010
