Ready to use "out of box" - but not for retrieving all storage

2/5 hawnarch - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seagate GoFlex Slim 320GB USB 2.0 Performance External Hard Drive for Mac STBL320100 (Personal Computers) I plugged this USB into my Mac and immediately loaded it with movie files. I had bought this smaller 320 GB unit specifically because I had problems connecting my larger 500 GB Seagate to some of my media players. Well. My Western Digital streamer has no problem reading movie files (video_ts, avi and mkv files) from this external hard drive. But my USB-compatible Panasonic HDTV and my three other USB-equipped bluray/dvd players have big problems. The Panasonic and the Iview say there is no USB device connected when this USB IS plugged in. My Philips dvd players say "empty card" - meaning they recognize the USB, but they cannot read any of the movie files. I suppose more formatting using the Mac might solve this problem. But I did not have this problem with two older Seagate external hard drives I use for viewing movies. This works for the limited connection, but the older models worked for all connections. I don't consider this USB an improvement. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 29, 2013

This works great with my MacBook from 2009 ! (Early 2009)

5/5 MikeandIkes - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seagate GoFlex Slim 320GB USB 2.0 Performance External Hard Drive for Mac STBL320100 (Personal Computers) I really like this drive! It is incredibly slim and the cord that comes with it is great for placing the drive on my desk. I use it to back up all of my files to my mac. It took a long amount of time to backup at first, but after its first backup it runs with great speed! It took about 1 minute to backup the next day! It is a fingerprint magnet, so beware of that.I would recommend this to a friend. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 22, 2013

Great Quality & Not Too Expensive

5/5 MirandaMowbray - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seagate GoFlex Slim 320GB USB 2.0 Performance External Hard Drive for Mac STBL320100 (Personal Computers) Excellent product! I've never been somebody that backs up their data on their computers, but I really wanted to start, so that I wouldn't lose my important information from work. I wanted a product that wasn't too expensive, but was also good quality. Two computer-savvy people recommended this to me, so I decided to try it out. It works perfectly with my Mac and it seems to be very sturdy and trustworthy! So glad that I decided to shell out the cash for this one. Format this drive first to avoid issues with this drive!!

I was expecting this drive to be like a spare drive to back up files and store data on and allow me to edit some files as I wanted. I really was expecting it to work just like a jump drive does, but have a lot more storage space. I didn't want to have to plug it into a wall, you know, portable. I wanted to be able to take it to several computers I have at home and at work. What I found out after I placed my order was that these drives by Seagate have pre-installed software on them that once connected to your computer will ask you to load, after a two minute wait. If you install this software "Dashboard" and whatever else is there, you may have some of the issues like all of the other negative ones I read. YOU DON'T NEED THIS SOFTWARE, SO DO NOT INSTALL IT!!! Seagate must think that the only purpose to buy this drive is to do a back-up on one computer and to have it auto run every so often, hence their software. I personnaly am not interested in their software, especially... 3/5 lasfk - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Plenty of space for all your files

I've tried out 3 Seagate GoFlex portable hard drives - the GoFlex Pro Ultra Portable (500gb), the GoFlex Slim (320gb), and the GoFlex Ultra Portable (1TB). I have been happy with all 3 of them actually. I initially had the 500gb but it was getting too full and I decided to try out the 1TB. The 1TB has plenty of space for all my files with plenty of room to spare. It comes with 2 versions of backup software plus some trial versions of programs for syncing and sharing files. Between my 3 Seagate hard drives, I have tried out both of the backup programs included on these hard drives, but since my 1TB is mostly used for extra space I have chosen to just copy files to it manually. I'm very set in my ways and this is how I've always backed up files, whether to another hard drive or to CDs or DVDs so this is what I do on this hard drive. I've used the backup software on my GoFlex Slim though since I am primarily using it for backup and the backup software is easy to use. I... 5/5 Lisa (Sunflower, MS) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 500 GB USB 2.0 Ultra-Portable External Hard Drive STAA500100 (Black)

I am not a techie kind of reviewer as I don't have the expertise - so from a layman's point of view this unit performs well and is every bit as good or better than my old Seagate 250GB I purchased quite some time ago for the same price. So five stars until the review needs updating.I purchased this one for my ex based on Amazon reviews and it is basically a plug and play unit - coming up on her Mac portable as soon as we plugged it in and with a few instructions from me she was backing up her computer hard drive. Mine has a metal case - hers is plastic. She is certainly less computer savvy than I am, and was pleased with how easy it was to plug in and get "worry free" about losing data for some yearly government reports she has to do. (And yes, it did take her losing and having to re-enter a couple of months worth of data to agree to go to a backup system). I call that an ERL (Experience Related Learning).I would assume this is just as easy to... 5/5 Tom Massart (Husum, WA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
