    Love it!

5/5 Melissa - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Toshiba Canvio Basics 1TB Portable Hard Drive - Black (HDTB310XK3AA) (Personal Computers) I take A LOT of pictures. I had concerns that with my computer being a few years old already that some day I would try to turn it on and it wouldn't start. So, I bought this to use as a back up. I've had this for about a week and already filled up over 100GB (that's with every picture, file and document that is on my computer). I still have a little over 800GB left! After having it plunged into your computer and it not being in use for a certain amount of time, it will shut off. Which I love because if it's not being used, I would rather it be off. With me taking as many pictures as I do, this may have been the best money I have spent..other than my camera of course! :) It comes with the cord to connect it to your computer as well., June 5, 2015

    Excellent - so far.

Great product. Let's see if these external discs last more than a month... A plus: doesn't need any software, doesn't need any power line, just plug it. Fast, easy to use. No problem so far. Not like one of my WD Books that my computer can recognize only after hundreds of attempts. And Amazon charges the lowest price as far as I know! 3/5 Ed Sullins (Sonora, California United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hitachi Touro Desk Dx3 2Tb External Hard Drive - Black (Personal Computers) While this product appears to be working for my needs (external storage for a Dish Network "Hopper" DVR), it should be noted that the included power supply did not come with an adapter for standard US 110-120 volt outlets. Awesome drive. Fast and quiet. Xbox One couldn't detect it until I replaced the cable.

Awesome drive for the Xbox One. Very fast and quiet. Great price for a 1tb 7200rpm drive. Also when you set your Xbox One to power saving the drive turns off when the Xbox One does. If your Xbox one is set to instant on, it remains on when you power down the Xbox One. I really like the fact that you don't need an additional power source for the drive. I did have one issue with it when I connected it to my Xbox One with the included usb 3.0 cable. The Xbox one would not detect the drive. My computer and other devices would detect it, but not the Xbox One. I called HGST and Microsoft tech support and neither one could help. I read on forums where other people had the same issues, with no luck in finding a solution. So I replaced the cable with an Aptiva usb 3.0 cable and it was immediately detected by my Xbox One. The cable that ships with this drive is very short and the quality isn't as good as the one I purchased. For some reason the Xbox One just does not like the included cable... 5/5 Pantherfan315 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Very Fast, thick aluminum top and bottom.

I only bought this one because I wanted to see if it was faster than my two Seagates and WD.It was practically identical in my tests, the seagates dominated in large files and the Touro wins in small files. Xbox One external hard drive

Ogiginal review on 1-Jul-2014: I bought this one to use with my Xbox One. Everything works great and already moved all games to it. No issues with performance. Recommended.Update (19-mar-2016): Changing from 5 stars to 3 stars, for now. Long story short, the hard drive has multiple bad sectors now. I installed the HGST tool that checks the drive and it aborts after a little while due to too many bad sectors. It doesn't seem to be related to the cable problem others reported. I tried a different cable and it's still failing. I just filled their RMA form. I'll update this review after my problem is handled by their customer service.Update (22-may-2016): My drive was replaced. I forgot to update here earlier, but the process took about a week. to complete after I sent them the drive. My only complain is the requirement they have to send the drive to them... the packaging required is not something you find easily in stores or post office.Tip: If you... 4/5 L. Drive works fine but cable input is not sturdy

This review is from: HGST, a Western Digital Company Touro Mobile USB 3.0 Portable Drive 1TB (0S03801) (Personal Computers) I am a Mac user and purchased this hard drive to double as a backup disk and external storage for especially large files. I had no problems partitioning the drive into 2 chunks (1 for Time Machine backups, 1 for general storage) and have no issues interfacing with the device. However, the drive-side usb jack is not very sturdy. The cable does not attach very firmly, and gentle nudges disrupt the connection, accidentally ejecting the drive. I haven't had any negative repercussions yet, but I fear that these connection disruptions might corrupt or damage my files. So Far...It Works!

Works just fine, for the short time I've owned it. Only hope it keeps doing so. I've owned external hard drives manufactured by Toshiba, Seagate, Western Digital, Maxtor, and Iomega. I guess I've been lucky -- all performed to my expectations. The only one that showed signs of failure was the Toshiba, and that was after using it for 3 or 4 years. The Maxtor never failed, but it was an early USB 1.1. model requiring proprietary software -- and was rendered obsolete by the universal standards eventually adopted for such devices. The current external drive longest in service is my Seagate 500gb FreeAgent (about 4 years). My only quibble (so far) with the Touro is the length of the cable which came with it. It is very very short.I will update this review in a year -- or sooner should the Touro fail. I wish others would do this if the products they review prove to have a shorter than useful life...or which endure longer than one might expect.UPDATE... 4/5 Buzz Stephens (Vancouver, WA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) GOOD, RELIABLE, CHEAP STORAGE

5/5 Mit - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: HGST Touro Mobile 500GB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive, Black (HTOLMX3NA5001ABB) (Personal Computers) I have used 8 or 9 of these 500GB Tauros over the last couple years for video production storage. They have been reliable and are relatively cheap. They are fast for the price. They only have USB connection (so if you are looking for HDMI, firewire, or other standard connection, you will have to purchase something else). I own roughly 50 external HDDs (of various brands) which my small production company has accumulated over the years. No matter how reliable a drive, they all (eventually) fail...but in my experience they frequently give off warning signs before they completely fail (odd noises, delay in connecting, etc). So always backup your data if you can't afford to lose it. I am currently using these Touros, have two spares on the shelf which I will use shortly, and plan to continue to buy them until something better comes along or their reliability significantly drops. ****UPDATE April 7, 2017 (After 2 years of use)****This drive is still running strong and functioning as it should. I have went to further add another one (a 5TB) to my arsenal as my data has grown over time. And yes, they do come in 5TB; I got it off a really really good deal that I simply could not pass up.So now I stack them 3 high and thinking about whether or not to put spacers between them for better ventilation. To maximize the heat sinking conductivity, I would use something metallic (like those mint boxes) to space between them. But the added height would mean there is a higher chance of toppling over.TIP: If you are using more than one of the same drives, I would advise you to label all the drives themselves, the USB data cables and the power cables such as "1" "2" and "3" with something as simple as a marker or some tape or color code the tape.I do now use a powered USB 3.0... 5/5 Dan Tech - Pro Photographer, Mac User, Tech Whiz (USA) - See all my reviews, April 13, 2015

1/4 of the these failed for us.

This review is from: G-Technology G-DRIVE USB 3.0 4TB External Hard Drive (0G03594) (Personal Computers) Recent we were shooting a movie and over the course of a few months ordered 8 of these from a few different vendors. 2 of them died. They work initially, and one stopped being able to write after 500-700gb (not all at once). The 2nd was a few months later. We filled it to about 3TB and then it refused to mount. Not liking this at all. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 27, 2015

    Very satisfied - quality product

I am very pleased with the quality of this hard drive. It was plug-n-play (for a Mac), just as advertised. I took it out of the box, plugged it in, and off we went. I had previously had a Seagate external hard drive which has lasted happily for many years, so originally I ordered another Seagate (3 TB). As soon as I took the new Seagate out of the box I could see it was cheaply made. The sheet metal case had sharp corners that would cut skin. I sent it back immediately. A friend of mine has a portable (1 TB) G-Tech drive, one of two we trade back and forth to store our date off-site at each other's h comes. I had been very impressed with the quality of my friend's little G-Tech drive, so I ordered my 4 TB G-Tech drive (which lives permanently in my house for backup). I had read online reviews which rated G-Tech drives highly. It has the look and feel of a quality product. I have not had it long enough to make any statements about how it will hold up over time. But it was one of the... 5/5 Kevin Roeckl - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
