Good Product not ready for Windows 7

4/5 Ralph Fowler (Illinois) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Maxtor OneTouch 4 Lite 750 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive STM307504OTA3E1-RK (Personal Computers) So far I really like my new Maxtor OneTouch 4. Got it for a GREAT price!! The only trouble I had initially was installing the built-in software as apparently auto launch is not supported yet by Windows 7. I was able to find the software by clicking on the disk itself and manually opening and installing it. Only other little quirk is that Window 7 also has some built in back-up options and it wants to set up a backup relationship with the new drive as well... but that's a windows dealio. A gift from god or just... well...geeks (thank you, by the way)

I say it's very efficient because, not once, has it messed up or lost my data or projects and it transfers fairly quickly and very smoothly. I make movies, so it's very essential that i have a reliable source to quickly and easily transfer stuff and go. Sometimes I might need to share data or clips or songs to another computer, it does this nicely, it never has a problem with registering on the computer. As for durability, i can't say much there, i always keep the outside covered by a fitted velvet cover and i've yet to drop it. sorry about that one, i'll remember to drop eveything at least once before writing another review. Have fun with this product guys, be careful with the cords though, they're very sturdy but like any cord, if somewhat mistreated, it will probably short, the problem with this being it does not have a typical usb port on it (remember, it's usb 3.0), otherwise you'd probably have a replacement. i'm sure you could find a cord for 3.0, but just to eliminate hassle... 5/5 Chelsey gardner - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great hard drive.

4/5 Justin (NJ) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seagate Expansion 750GB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STBX750100) (Personal Computers) Got this to load my games onto because my system has a bad SATA controller and kills or makes my SATA hard drives malfunction. The 10 year old PATA 80GB hard drive still works great for booting my OS but it was slow and obviously not capacious enough for games and heavy media. Runs my games better than my PATA drive would that's for sure. The only flaw I have found is that it does not always turn on the interface of the drive when I plug it into the USB port. The drive will power on, but the blue activity light showing that it's picked up by the PC and active does not turn on and my PC doesn't recognize it immediately. However once I unplug it and plug it back in (sometimes several times before it finally takes) it works totally fine. No problems. Great drive. Not sure if that problem is common. Avoid - USB Power Problem

1/5 Z Ricarditich - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Seagate Expansion 750GB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STBX750100) (Personal Computers) I purchased mine in Dec 2012.Unlike my two Western Digital Passport USB3 1 TB external drives (which get their power from their USB cords), this unit, which also gets its power from its USB cord, will not operate properly unless it is attached directly to my computer's USB port.I have an external USB hub with its own 110v power source, and when this unit is connected to that it will not operate properly (the Western Digital drives will). I must plug the USB cord into the computer's USB port.I don't know what Seagate did to produce that result, but it apparently saved money doing such. Best Replacement Drive - A PS4-Specific Review

I felt compelled to write a review specifically for how this drive performs as a replacement for the 500GB 5400RPM drive that comes stock in the Playstation 4. I'll explain why this is the best drive for what I feel are the three main points to consider: Storage space, speed, and price.*Storage space - 500GB will not be enough space for this system in the long-run. The operating system and other mandatory installs take up just under 100GB of space on your drive. Games are now running at full 1080p resolution as well, which makes the game sizes enormous. Most games will take up between 20-50GB. Assuming you are left with about 400GB of usable space after the OS, that will allow approximately 20 games to be installed on your drive if the games are on the SMALL side. The actual amount of games you will be able to fit may be significantly less, as games like Killzone: Shadow Fall are about 40GB. The solution to this issue may be to uninstall games as your drive fills up, but... 5/5 Adam Slade - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great value

I originally bought one of these for my late 2011 MacBook Pro 15" about four years ago and it has worked very well since then. It still works very well to this day. The improved read/write speeds are noticeable and the increase of storage space is obviously a plus (originally had a 320GB HDD, so three times the space now).I purchased this one to upgrade my girlfriend's 2011 MacBook Pro 13" as she was experiencing a myriad of issues with it. Instead of cloning her old drive I performed a clean install of OS X 10.11.5 (this was before OS Sierra's release) by making a bootable OS X Install USB device. After this I ended up sticking her old HDD into a USB 3.0 external HDD enclosure so she could still access all her old files, as well as migrate documents, images and music to the new drive. This has worked very well for her so far, and the improvements in performance over the old HDD is a night a day difference. The value in these 1TB SSHDs are fantastic. I did notice... 5/5 C. Worth Speed Gain Over USB2, Not Much Over ext FW400, Flimsy Cheap Build Quality

Hopefully the background of my decision will help you in making a decision, especially if you're using an older Mac laptop.Having an early 2008 MacBook Pro (which I got with the faster 7200rpm 200GB drive rather than the slower 250GB one) meant my having to keep my iTunes and iPhoto files on external bus powered USB-drives for several years. Generally I use Carbon Copy Cloner for my internal drive clones to external FireWire ones, and am OK using the USB powered drives like Iomega 320 and WD 160 in the past to keep my libraries.I did want to upgrade my internal drive to the 750GB Momentus and keep all the data in one place, but opening up the MBP, going through that hassle, and then hopefully getting an early 2012 MacBook Pro with something like a 75pGB or 1TB internal drive (whenever they come out) would mean wasted money and effort on this older laptop. So, an external bus powered drive was my practical choice for now. Very Pleased

I was a little anxious about purchasing this, especially with all the comments about the firewire connections becoming so hot while in use. I have an Imac with a 930GB harddrive, a core 2 duo 3.06Ghz processor and 4GB ram. I'm running OSX 10.5.8. I have several thousand songs in my Itunes folder and tons of e-books, so I was really concerned about backing all that up just in case. Hate to lose all that and have start from scratch. Already been through that once. Anyway, this baby (GoFlex Pro for Mac STBB500100) has worked great right out of the box. I started with the firewire adapter at first, thinking I could change over to the USB if the FW adapter became to hot. I started the process right after everyone was finished opening their Christmas gifts, and it's been running for about 24 hours now. No problem whatsoever with the adapter getting hot. To be honest, it's barely even warm (I'm touching it as we speak). It transfered 100GB of data in about an hour (like I said, I mainly have... 5/5 Michelle R. Poor design of Firewire adapter

Overall, I like the drive. It is fast, quiet, and compact. However, it has a major flaw. The Firewire adapter is bus-powered, which means it probably needs to be the connected directly to your computer to get power, which is normally not a problem, but they omitted a pass-through port on the adapter, so you cannot daisy-chain devices. This means this drive also must be the last device in your chain. The only way to be both the last and first drive in the chain is to be the ONLY Firewire device in the chain. So when I want to copy files from one Firewire HD to another? Connect one, copy files to computer, disconnect the first drive and connect the other, copy files to that drive. What if I cannot fit the files on my internal HD? Then I'm out of luck or need to switch to the USB interface. Why did I pay a premium for the Firewire interface if it is only partly usable? It is a stupid omission of a feature that is standard on nearly all Firewire devices. It would... 3/5 ezjay - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
