The Science of Happily Ever After, What Really Matters in the Quest for Enduring Love

Creator: Ty Tashiro | Family & Relationships - 2014

Examines the science behind choosing a mate and reveals actionable tips for finding love, in an exploration that draws on research from such fields as demography, sociology, and psychology.

Publisher: Harlequin

About this book
In this playful and informative exploration of the science behind how to choose a great mate, acclaimed relationship psychologist Dr. Ty Tashiro explores how to find enduring love. Dr. Tashiro translates reams of scientific studies and research data into the first book to revolutionize the way we search for love. His research pinpoints why our decision-making abilities seem to fail when it comes to choosing mates and how we can make smarter choices. Dr. Tashiro has discovered that if you want a lifetime of happiness—not just togetherness—it all comes down to how you choose a partner in the first place. With wit and insight, he explains the science behind finding a soul mate and distills his research into actionable tips, including: Why you get only three wishes when choosing your ideal partner. Why most people squander their wishes and end up in unfulfilling relationships. How wishing for the three traits that really matter can help you find enduring love. Illustrated using entertaining stories based on real-life situations and backed by scientific findings from fields such as demography, sociology, medical science and psychology, Dr. Tashiro provides an accessible framework  to help singles find their happily-ever-afters.

Crashed & Burned at 7 Months

The pluses: It's light and small, easy to use, and comes preloaded with a document backup utility. Should be great for those who need a portable HDD as it can be dropped in a purse or slipped into a shirt pocket for transport. Decent copying speed for an external USB drive. The negatives: There seems to be a major reliability problem with some of the hard drives (note similar recent reviews of failure at Amazon). Mine died after only 7 months of use on a personal computer. It was never jostled around or subjected to extreme temps as it never left my desktop after it was plugged in. Several utilities were unable to recover any data due to "unreadable sectors" and Master File Table errors -- quite likely physical damage to the head or platters. I managed to save about 20 out of 200+ GB before the unit went totally south.Seagate warranties the drive for 5 years, but it's a whole lot of no fun trying to navigate their cold, impersonal website. Stylish product, dockable, beats my WD Passport drives

I'm a professional photographer who fills up two portable drives a year (I swap the onsite and offsite copies after each shoot). The Western Digital (WD) Passport portables I've been using, at 320 GB each, are full to the brim with all my 2008 'raw' work. Wanting to preserve the data on them, I went shopping for two more portable drives, and came across the Seagate 500 GB GO models. You can't really go wrong with either drive (both companies offer a great five-year warranty), but I like the form factor of the Seagates a bit better (they're a fraction of an inch smaller in all dimensions but LOOK even more svelte than they are). Also, an Amazon promotion currently offers a free dock with the Seagate drives, much like an iPod dock -- just slide the device onto the connector and it mounts on your desktop. Handy and elegant. The WD drives don't have this option. The downside to using the Seagate dock (and this is why I give this setup 4 stars, not 5) is that, for... 4/5 TerryF (Maine, USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) So far, so good.

This review is from: Seagate FreeAgent Go 1 TB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive ST910004FAA2E1-RK (Tuxedo Black) (Personal Computers) I've bought 1 250GB, 7 500GB, and 1TB external HDs over the past two years, and nothing out of the ordinary has happened (knock-on-wood). There were two times when I experienced problems with two separate HDs: I was unable to access files in one of them, so I defragmented it, and it worked perfect since then. The other (1TB HD) did make that horrible beeping and clicking sound a few minutes after I hooked it up to the laptop. However, it ceased to do it an hour later - and it's been working fine since then (it's been about 5 months); this 1TB HD was a refurbished item that cost about $99 total, so I took a chance on an used/cheap item. All in all, though, I've not had a serious problem to report for nine separate HDs of the same brand and make/model. If I was looking to buy another or give it as a gift, I wouldn't hesitate in getting another Seagate FreeAgent Go. This review is from: Seagate FreeAgent Go 250 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive ST902503FGA1E1-RK (Personal Computers) I've had this hard drive for about 6 months now. It doesn't require a separate power source, but uses two usb ports. It is ultra slim, easy to take with you, and operates very quietly.I use it two or three times a week and haven't had any issues so far. Still, I would be weary of purchasing from SeaGate. Many of my friends have had issues with their hard drives (although not this model specifically). Over all this player is a good unit for play back of basic media files. I purchased this unit primarily to play my extensive MP3 collection through my sound system. As other users have mentioned an HDMI output with support for 1080p is notably absent. The player is limited in what file types it supports although it plays my mp3's quite well. The digital audio output is nice and it allows you to choose between LPCM or raw format for external decoding. It would have been nice to have an optical output since some brands of receivers are limited in the number of coax connections available. One huge limitation of this player that perhaps a future firmware update will correct is that it will not use the track number contained in the ID3 data to play the tracks in album order. The unit simply uses alphabetic order so to properly order the tracks for playback every track must be renamed with the track number in front of it. I've also loaded a couple of my favorite standard definition DVD's... 4/5 Media User (United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I highly recomend this product.does everything and does it with style. Very well packedRemote is a bit small for the larger hands but you can adapt quickly.I have had mine about a month now and use it a lot. I have put about 150 movies on it and still have loads of space. I bought mine just for movies.I did have a little issue with the first one that was sent out in that the catch to hold the drive would not hold. Contacted Amazon on their web site and had an RMA issued and they shipped the replacement out and I had it in 2 days. No hassels nothing. Forget Ebay this is the way to go.update! 6-6-2010Ok I still love it but find my original problem that Amazon resolved quite quickly has come back. I insert the drive in the media player dock but the drive wont lock in place. Not wanting to go through trying to exchange again I took a heavy paper binder clip and place the drive back in while clipping the clip to the front edge and it holds the... 5/5 John D. Okay, but has a few downsides.

This is a great player with high def and HDMI capabilities. This player does have a few downsides though. For one the remote is tiny and easy to lose. When you try to scroll through your downloaded media titles, the player tries to play the feature in like a picture in picture mode and it really slows you down when trying to select what you want. The seagate docking station for your computer takes up two USB ports, so for those who have few ports that sucks. However they do have a docking station you can buy seperatly that runs off of a wall plug and usb port with three additional usb ports on the docking station. The Seagate software download for your computer is not supported for a 64 bit operating system. You have to go to seagate technical support and download a zip file that contains a usable format. The upsides is it will play nearly everything and has a very good picture quality. Using the Seagate hard drive is very easy also once you get it all set up. All in all a good... 3/5 Johnny Walker - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Infatuation

Mine is admittedly an over-reaction based on limited evidence, but if you're an iMac owner with Firewire 800, I don't see anything remotely comparable to this compact, fast, user-friendly Seagate FreeAgent Go drive. Even if you don't have Firewire 800, not to worry. The manufacturer has provided a total of 4 cables to answer all needs along with a convenient dock (this thing scarcely has a footprint!) and, for traveling, a tailor-made, wallet-sized leather case. The only thing missing is instructions, which fortunately are totally unnecessary. My experience with trying, unsuccessfully, to make an Iomega Prestige drive appear on my desktop, after using every disc repair/reconfiguration trick I could find on the internet, including Iomega's site, is enough to extract from me the pronouncement that this nifty number from Seagate is worth twice the price of the lowest-priced 500 gig drive (which it was). Regardless, don't let price be the sole determiner of your selection... 5/5 Samuel C. (Kenosha,, WI United States) - See all my reviews, September 11, 2009

    Great product! Convenient size!

Just bought this HD to back up my MacBook Pro. Hooks up in seconds, Mac recognizes it immediately and you can just drag and drop files to store or backup. I use Time Machine with this to back up my whole system and it works flawlessly. I used to have Apple's Time Capsule but after a while I didn't like the slow wireless connection to back up files and it would constantly stop backups because the connections would occasionally drop. I use the Firewire 800 connection with this HD and it backed up my whole system in less than an hour. Great size also if you want to take it anywhere with you. Included cables cover all scenarios such as Firewire 800, Firewire 400 & USB. Also has a very convenient leather carrying case so the HD doesn't get all dinged or scratched up during transport. Only negative thing I could say about this product is that the docking station only works with Firewire 800 so it will be useless to use if you don't have that connection on your current system. very nice product

I purchased the 500gb free agent (USB & Firewire) to use as an external hard drive for my iPhoto library and eventually my iTunes library. The problem is that I purchased a Canon XTi Rebel and now I take a ton of photographs, so my iPhoto library grew to 40gb after about 1 year. Plus the music keeps coming and at this point I have about 60gb in my iTunes library. My MacBook Pro's HD is 160GB. When my HD had less than 10% free space, there was a noticeable impact to the performance (everything seemed to slow down). So I moved my iPhoto library to this FreeAgent, and next will be my iTunes library. Note that there are very specific steps to doing this, just google it to find out. Last point is that theoretically this keeps working with Time Machine. In other words, as long as this drive is plugged in when I am using Time Machine, then it is also backing up this drive (which is really important given that all of my music and photos will be on it). Final points on this... 5/5 Max (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
