In this edition, Scott Mueller offers true insider information about several of the key components in a PC, including hard disk drives, power supplies, motherboards, and more.   You will see hard drives completely dissected–even see an open hard drive in operation–so you can observe exactly what happens under the covers. One of the most common causes of failure in modern motherboards, power supplies, and many other PC components are bad capacitors–otherwise known as the capacitor plague. Mueller will show several real-world examples of this “disease,” so you can easily identify and perhaps even repair the problem. Finally, because external hard drives are now commonly used for supplementary storage and backups, you’ll find a complete discussion of several alternatives on the market. This includes tips and tricks for building or assembling your own flexible, high performance and highly reliable external storage drives, with several examples shown. This DVD also contains the complete 19th edition of this book in printable form, plus extensive technical reference material, a comprehensive glossary, and more!

Teutoburg Forest, AD 9, The Destruction of Varus and His Legions

Creator: Michael McNally | History - 2011-01-18

Arminius, a member of the Cheruscan tribe, was sent to Rome as a hostage, and was given a Roman education in the hope that he would become an advocate of Roman rule amongst the German tribes.

Publisher: Osprey Publishing

About this book
Osprey's study of one of the  most important battles of the long-elasting Germanic Wars (113 BC - 439 AD). Arminius, a young member of the Cheruscan tribe under the Roman Empire felt that Rome could be beaten in battle and that such a victory would guarantee the freedom of the Germans as a confederation of independent tribes, led by the Cheruscans, who would - in turn - be led by him. Throughout AD 8 and the early part of AD 9, Arminius used his position under the governor of Germania Inferior well, ostensibly promoting Rome whilst in reality welding the tribes together in an anti-Roman alliance, agreeing with his confederates that they would wait until the Roman garrison had moved to their summer quarters and then rise up against the invaders. With the arrival of September, the time soon came for the Roman troops to return to their stations along the Rhine and as they marched westwards through the almost impenetrable Teutoburg Forest, Arminius sprang his trap. In a series of running battles in the forest, Varus' army, consisting of three Roman Legions (XVII, XVIII and XIX) and several thousand auxiliaries - a total of roughly 20,000 men - was destroyed. The consequences for Rome were enormous - the province of Germania was now virtually undefended and Gaul was open to a German invasion which although it never materialized, led a traumatized Augustus to decree that, henceforth, the Rhine would remain the demarcation line between the Roman world and the German tribes, in addition to which the destroyed legions were never re-formed or their numbers reused in the Roman Army: after AD 9, the sequence of numbers would run from I to XVI and then from XX onwards, it was as if the three legions had never existed.

Poor man.

Publisher: Penguin

About this book
Poor man. Rich man. Dead man.It sounded like a fairy tale: A homeless man named Abraham Shakespeare spent his last dollars on a Florida State lottery ticket—and miraculously won $31 million.Unprepared for his newfound fortune, Abraham hired Dorice “Dee Dee” Moore to help manage his winnings and field the numerous requests for loans and assistance that he received. But somehow, Dee Dee was the only one benefitting. When Abraham quietly disappeared from his home in Florida, friends and family grew suspicious—though he could not read or write, his only form of contact was through odd letters and texts. But it wasn’t until investigators began to question Dee Dee about her role in Abraham’s finances that a complicated web of lies—and the desperate lengths to which one woman would go to cover it up—was exposed…

    1st Unit Was Suspect

I purchased this item and got it in a very, very short time, so Amazon's shipping gets cudos! However, when I hooked it up, the drive light flashed steadily at about 2 flashes per second and would'nt become steady like my other WD Elements SE drive, so I suspected some trouble. I downloaded WD's diagnostics software, and although it passed all the tests, the "Quick Test" (which should have taken about 5 minutes) took over 10 hours.I wasn't comfortable, so I went through Amazon's return procedure, and must say that it was a VERY pleasant experience - identify what you want to return, tell them your concerns, print the lable and you're set to go - no postage neccessary!I have a WD Elements 160GB that I've been using for about 4 months both at home and at work and am very pleased with the performance and reliability. The light is steady when not being accessed and blinks when accessed - just as it should. It's VERY quiet, just the right size, not... 1/5 Rodger Sunderland - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Better Than WD Pasport Series

I have 3 WD Passport Series portable external hard drives - and I much prefer this WD Elements hard drive.First, for a great price, you get the full 1 TB of space - no WD backup software that I don't want to use as on the Passport series. I can dedicate the entire drive to the files I want to put on it without having the constant WD backup taking up valuable space. I bought this drive in the hope that this would be an unfettered portable hard drive, and I was correct. I have a myriad of information on this drive without a single backup in sight.Second, this thing runs like a charm. Although I never have an occasion to take it anywhere as a truly portable drive, it's better than having some big chunk of hardware taking up real estate space on my desk. This external hard drive is compact and sits behind my laptop, out of the way. Transferring files to and from the disk is quick and easy. No long waits when moving large amounts of data (mostly pictures and... 5/5 PWB Esq (Upper East Tennessee USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Really plug and play, be careful with cable

I spent many hours looking for a 1 TB hard drive that's not bulky and doesn't come with bloatware. Finally WD released this product and I can say I'm really satisfied with it. I'ts really plug and play, It's worked flawlessly on my PC with windows vista and my two laptops, one old with windows XP and a newer one with Windows 7. Since I bought this item mainly to watch HD movies on my WDTV, I split it into two partitions: A big one NTFS formatted with 64K blocksize and a smaller one also NTFS formatted but with 512K blocksize. I formatted the big partition with 64K blocksize since I read some users complaining that WDTV took some time to find video files in it with standard blocksize and I can say that the it really works. The smaller partition will be used to store regular personal files like documents or digital photos. The product really is plug and play, so no need to install any drivers or additional software. Also, I love that the device receives power directly from the usb... 5/5 Edgar - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
