About this book
Two guys named Steve, working in a garage, created a prototype computer designed to be different in a way no one thought possible: It would be easy to use. Those two Steves, one now a billionaire and still at the head of Apple, not only succeeded with that product, but they also broke ground in the business world in ways few thought possible: They proved you could not only have fun at work, but pursuing a capitalist dream could be hip. How did Apple do it? How did it go from making computers that made a difference but not much of a dent in the overall market to creating a device (the iPod) and a music service (iTunes) that has changed the way we buy and experience music? And how did the Macintosh and its successors capture the hearts and minds of computer users so deeply that being a Mac person makes you a member of a special club? That's what this book is all about. As author Jason D. O'Grady shows, Apple is a rare company—one that is not afraid to think about a future that does not exist and turn it into reality. Critics have written Apple off time and again, yet it rises from the ashes to astound the critics and delight its customers. That's not luck or happenstance—it's vision, dedication, and persistence. Besides delighting Apple aficionados, this book will inspire students eager to launch a business career or work in the technology sector. Apple has never been afraid to chart its own path, and readers will learn what makes the company tick.

Dead After 14 Months, Was Great

This is an easy to setup product, but the compact design seemed to lead to overheating and premature hardware failure. Some pros and cons (below). You can configure this unit into Bridge Mode so that your WiFi devices will be on the same LAN segment as your Ethernet wired devices. You can add Airport Express units and have them share the same SSID so that as you move around your location you switch seamlessly from one Wi Fi device to anotherOurs worked well for 14 months, it was great having laptops back themselves up automatically, and when the occasional backup might fail this was usually not caused by Time Capsule. About a year in, two months ago, backups began to fail seeming to indicate internal hard drive problems. I noted that for a few days it was very warm and the fan was running constantly. Finally ours gave up the ghost and quit even functioning as an Ethernet switch on its ports. I'm replacing it with an Airport Express Base... 3/5 Steve Rider (Corona, CA United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Absolute garbage. In fact, it is now in the garbage.

1/5 Todd G - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Apple Time Capsule MB765LL/A 1TB (Personal Computers) This piece of junk died 18 months after purchase, just like so many others. Apple wouldn't replace the product because the serial number didn't fall within their parameters for extended warranty replacement. I spoke with AppleCare reps, who said they couldn't do anything for me. Apple's reputation took a bit hit for me after this purchase. Even though I prefer working in Mac OS, I am now reluctant to purchase their peripherals because when they make a faulty product, such as this, they refuse to acknowledge manufacturing defects and leave their customers holding the trash bag. Worked for awhile but not now

3/5 Ita Sara (upstate NY) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Apple Time Capsule MB765LL/A 1TB (Personal Computers) I bought this a few years ago and I was very happy with this. But one day I came home and had not wifi not to mention it was not backing up. I called Apple at the time and we tried resetting it and a couple times it worked but then stopped. It was by then out of warranty. Turns out I had bought a refurbished one at BEST BUY incase I upgraded my harddrive to a bigger one. I am using still the refurbished one. There may be a fix for this one, but I haven't had time to check into it. I'm afraid if I take it to Apple assuming they can fix it that it will cost more than I want to pay. I just don't like the idea that something like this that I depend on can suddenly stop working and leave me on the lurch. 3/5 Stephanie - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Apple Time Capsule Model A1355 1 Tb (Personal Computers) They didn't send me a power cable with the time capsule, nor did they clear out the previous owner's passcode so it took an Act of God to reset it so that I could gain access to the hard drive and back my laptop up. Robbery

5/5 cdelr334 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Apple Time Capsule MB277LL/A (AirPort Extreme Plus 1 TB Storage) (Personal Computers) I think I robbed the guy who sold this to me. For the price I paid it is 100% worth the product. I have this currently attached to my Verizon FiOS MI424WR wirelessly. Right now I don't really do anything with it but it works great. I found it on Amazon for so cheap I just wanted to buy it. It is easy to access the hard drive from MAC or PC so you can save whatever you want on it. As other reviewers suggested do not try to back up wirelessly good luck with that, instead backup with an ethernet cable. My next plan is to get the new 802.11ac Airport Extreme and use this Time Capsule as an extension to my network so I can have 100% coverage in my apartment. I also have a printer connected to this device. By the way, the TC is larger than the Gen 1-5 AExtremes. Airport Utility is easy to use it's already on your Mac and if you have PC just download it. If you screw up the installation just reset the TC. Good luck and happy NASing. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 29, 2013

Very pleased with this product but HD died in four years

I purchased the 1 TB version from Amazon. Usual great Amazon delivery. As for the product, I have a mixed network with a PC and a Macbook Pro. I have been thinking about upgrading the wireless to N from G and had a need for more network storage. Plus I needed a workgroup switch up to hook up the Blu-ray disk player and Directv box through a single ethernet jack. And I wanted to get serious about backing up that Macbook. In other words, this product was made for me - addresses four needs with one product.I consider myself an advanced novice when it comes to networking and I found setup to be pretty simple. The wired switch aspect of things worked without any action on my part other than plugging in the cables. (I am not using the TC as a router per se, the router is in the basement and is connected to the TC through another switch and a long run of CAT5e cable, all without glitches.)Getting wireless going was a bit of learning... 4/5 Home office (Bethesda, MD United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) unstable

1/5 farvelous (Alameda, CA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Apple Time Capsule MB277LL/A (AirPort Extreme Plus 1 TB Storage) (Personal Computers) I do software quality work for a living. This doesn't make me a perfectionist. I know you need to work with a product sometimes to get it to do what you want. But if it crashes even after doing software updates, I have no sympathy. The product allows you to connect a USB external Hard Drive to the Time Capsule in order to do a complete backup of the Time Capsule. This has never worked. I've tried various revisions of Time Capsule firmware and this backup of the Time Capsule always hangs soon after commencing. The Time Capsule wireless router functionality has generally been good. But the NAS part has been quite unstable. I have a macbook and an iPod. Great, solid products. This product *should* be the most stable, rock solid product Apple makes because of it's function (network connectivity and critical data backup) But it just sucks. Very Pleased

I doubt that I'll ever go back to Windows again (other than the machine that I use at work). This is something that I've wanted to do for a while but I didn't want to take the time to learn it. I finaly bit the bullet and did it. I ordered it on a Saturday and it arrived on the following Wednesday (free shipping).Within a few days, I'd figured out most of what I care about. I bought a book but found it only marginally helpful. In the several days bewteen ordering it and the arrival, I watched tons of YouTube videos on the iMac and that's where I learned most of what I know so far. Note: FINDER is to the iMac what Windows Explorer is to a PC.I keep all personal files on an exernal drive, the only thing on the internal drive is the OS, applications, etc. That's a holdover from my Windows days.Music is loaded although I don't like iTunes so I downloaded WinAmp. The BEST All-In-One-Desktop... EVER... Just make sure you get the right configuration.

To put it simply, the iMac with Retina 5K Display is nothing short of spectacular. At this moment, there is no computer in the world like it.First of all, look at the price. High quality 4K monitors can cost between $1000 and $2000 or more, just for the monitor. Apple reminds me of Spinal Tap... This one goes to 5K. 5K may not sound like much more than 4K, but the difference is actually an increase of over 67% more pixels. We're talking about a screen that can show a 14.7 Megapixel photo, without zooming. That's simply amazing. When I first saw the Apple event where they announced this, my first thought was, if they are jamming that many pixels into this, they are going to need a super fast graphics card, because playback and editing in 4K requires 4 times more bandwidth than 1080p, much less 5K. So, I was skeptical. I went to the Apple store and they had a lot of 4K footage loaded into Final Cut Pro X. I was able to skim around, make edits and playback... 5/5 Joe Crescenzi (Staten Island, NY USA) - See all my reviews, November 4, 2014

The first value oriented device by Apple

DISCLOSUREI bought this using my student discount so I did it via the Apple website instead. The student discount brought it to $2299.I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE IT'S RELATIVELY CHEAP? REALLY?The iMac 5k is probably the only "value" oriented device Apple makes. It's ironic because it's the most expensive iMac. Let's put it this way, the 5k screen itself is sold for $2.5k by Dell(not available until Dec). I don't know yet if it's the same panel as Dell but Dell have historically used the same panels as Apple before with the previous 1440p thunderbolt display. For a more mainstream comparison, the new LG 4k IPS monitor is a very good monitor. The price tag is $1399. However, I doubt it would have the same contrast and accurate color reproduction as this iMac. The reality is that any decent IPS 4k or 5k screen is going to cost you a fortune regardless of brand. What Apple essentially gave you is the first professional 5K screen and a free... 5/5 3D - See all my reviews This review is from: Apple iMac with Retina 5K display (OLDEST VERSION) (Discontinued by Manufacturer) (Personal Computers) DISCLOSUREI bought this using my student discount so I did it via the Apple website instead.
