Creator: Ben Greisler | Photography - 2011-05-12

The framework for managing this data must go beyond Digital Asset Management (DAM) to the holistic data lifecycle perspective. Enter Photographer's Guide to the Digital Lifecycle.

Publisher: Pearson Education

About this book
Photographers, videographers, and other creative content makers are dealing with a new world of media that presents the challenge of managing all their raw and prepared data produced in the creative process. The framework for managing this data must go beyond Digital Asset Management (DAM) to the holistic data lifecycle perspective. Enter Photographer's Guide to the Digital Lifecycle. Offering much more than a DAM book—this is a comprehensive guide to modern, real-world digital asset storage practices. It goes beyond things like metadata and how to use DAM applications and looks at the whole process, from ingest to archive. In addition to the usual DAM concerns of metadata and tagging, Photographer's Guide to the Digital Lifecycle brings to light the fundamental strengths and weaknesses of the digital storage mediums we choose and the best techniques for applying them. It looks beyond DAM software to real-life examples for keeping your data safe and managed, from the moment of production to its status as historical artifact.

UPDATE: It pays to be creative. While it doesn't eliminate the need for this manufacturer to fix the problem of poor, easily breakable connectors....I've found a sort-of solution. In this, and my other broken G-Drive, I have securely taped the connector with heavy, packing sheet tape, to the connection on the G-Drive....permanently. And...it works. Now...G-Drive people....you think of a way of doing it without the tape (I could think of a very good way to make the connection secure.)SECOND REVIEW: At the bottom, my previous review. It was a 4 star. No more. Every one I've had has broken...but the one I recently bought (returned the other bought at the same time without opening the box) broke the third day. And...it turns out...after calling G-Technology support....not so rare. The connection to the USB port...on the external hard drive, simply breaks...ending possibility of connection. Or retrieval. With no possibility of fixing. Terrible. And...yes....now... 1/5 LL - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Product! G-Tech is the answer for reliability . . . :-)

5/5 Matthew Bushey - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: G-Technology G-DRIVE mobile 1TB Portable FireWire and USB 3.0 Drive for Time-Machine (Silver) (0G02391) (Personal Computers) As a professional photographer/film maker, I've owned many different manufacturers' hard drives in the past; though I've never had a complete failure of a drive yet, G-Tech is my go-to for professional use. Period. With proven reliability, sturdy construction, and great customer service, I can't say enough about these drives! Also, when comparing feature/benefits with comparable models, for the same price, these drives can't be beat! Stop playing around (and waiting around) with your USB 2 connections, and step up to FW800 or Thunderbolt G-Techs. You'll be happy that you did. ;-) Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 13, 2013

My First Experience w/ an Iomega Hard Drive

===================" UPDATED REVIEW: "===================17.OCT.2011I recently purchased and received another Iomega eGo drive via Amazon. This time I selected the 2TB model - 34796. The drive looks and feels physically identical to the 1TB drive I purchased last year, which by the way, is still toiling along quite strong. So on the strength of my first experience with Iomega in the HD arena, I bought this one...First task: I plugged in, and the drive immediately displayed on my desktop using Snow Leopard OS. I bought the drive to help begin my transition to Lion. I transferred all the contents of a LaCie Poulton 1TB drive, via 400-800 firewire. It took 11 hours and 3 minutes for 999.36GB, 64MB shy of 1TB. I then transferred over 200GB from the Iomega 1TB eGo using 800-800 firewire in (Oops I forgot but it seemed quick enough) somewhere around 2 hours I think...Everything I have done so far with these drives just seemed... 5/5 Westminister (CA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Yes, it's bootable.

Here's a crucial detail I couldn't find in other reviews before I went ahead and bought one:Yes, my Mac (Mac Mini, vintage 2009, running Leopard OS 10.5.8) recognizes this drive as bootable, and I confirmed that I could actually boot from this drive, after cloning my original harddrive to this Iomega drive. I did not have to prepare the Iomega drive at all. I just used the free Carbon Copy Cloner software to copy my entire Mac's hard drive to the Iomega drive. No partitioning or formatting necessary. However, there's a trick to booting from the Iomega drive: You have to keep holding down the Option key while your Mac starts up longer than you think you ought to. Keep holding it down even after you see your Mac's boot menu appear, which at first will only offer you your built-in original hard drive as the only option to boot from. Keep holding it down a few more seconds, until your Iomega drive pops up next to your original hard drive. Why does this... 4/5 A. Ng (Wisconsin, USA) - See all my reviews, October 28, 2010

    Couldn't get it together...

The product was delivered in a generic cardboard box that was too small for all the loose pieces and couldn't even be closed. The instructions are for an assembled version of the product with a disk drive already installed so there was no assembly instructions. The built-in metal shielding in the top and bottom pieces don't appear to mate correctly and I cannot get these two major pieces to fit together! There is nothing obvious to hold the actual disk drive in place other that the disk connection (perhaps it's missing a part?). The LED assembly for the disk usage indicator is floating around loose and there doesn't appear to be a way to install it correctly. There another separate plastic piece related to the LEDs, but from the only way I can figure I'd have to force it into place at the risk of breaking something.I have put together dozens of different disk enclosures over the years, but this particular set of parts that I received was an unusable mess. It did include... 2/5 Joe M. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Terrible manufacturing

Joe M. sure had it right in his review! A pile of parts with no instructions about how to put them together -- astonishing that Amazon has the bad judgement to be selling this POS. I ended up giving it 2 stars instead of one because I did end up getting it to work, albeit without one of it's internal parts. There's a sheet metal cover that's supposed to go over the disk and mate with one under it, but I think the top one is exactly the same size as the bottom one, thus it won't go either around it or inside it, so I gave up on that. Then when I put the plastic lid on and tried to plug in the power connector the internal pc board was so misaligned with the case that I couldn't get the plug in !! Good Grief. Took it clear apart, and after taking off the outside anodized aluminum case I was able to see how the 4 LED indicator strip fit in, so I installed that. Impossible without taking the case clear off. After putting it back together, except to the plastic top, I could get the... 2/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Not that hard to make it work...

I'm not giving it the 5 stars, because there was no instructions, and wasn't able to figure out how to put the parts from the light on the inside, I just aligned the light on the 4 holes, and the plastic part on the outside.
