"..certainly a great resource for use in any healthcare setting." Reviewed by Anne Duell on behalf of Nursing Times, September 2015UNIQUE! Tokyo, 1955-1970, A New Avant-garde

Creator: Doryun Chong, Michio Hayashi, Mika Yoshitake, Miryam Sas, Museum of Modern Art (New York, N.Y.) | Art - 2012

Catalog of an exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Nov. 18, 2012-Feb. 25, 2013.

Publisher: The Museum of Modern Art

About this book
"Tokyo 1955-1970: A New Avant-Garde" explores the extraordinary convergence of artists and other creators in Japan's capital city during the radically transformative postwar period. Examining works from a range of media--painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, printmaking, video and film, as well as graphic design, architecture, musical composition and dance--this is the first publication in English to focus in depth on the full scope of postwar art in Japan. During this period, Tokyo was a vibrant hub that attracted such critical artistic figures as Taro Okamoto, Hiroshi Nakamura, Ay-O, Yoko Ono, Mieko Shiomi and Tetsumi Kudo; photographers Daido Moriyama, Eikoh Hosoe and Shomei Tomatsu; illustrators and graphic designers Tadanori Yokoo, Kohei Sugiura and Kiyoshi Awazu; and architects Arata Isozaki and Kisho Kurokawa; as well as many important artists' collectives. Curator Doryun Chong's essay investigates Tokyo's sociopolitical context and the massive urban changes that set the stage for the city to emerge as a vital node in the international avant-garde network. Essays by scholars Hayashi Michio and Miryam Sas and curator Mika Yoshitake discuss critical concepts in art and culture at this time, including "graphism," which manifested itself across various mediums; the development of new sculptural languages; and the "intermedia" tendency that engendered provocative cross-pollination among artistic genres. Masatoshi Nakajima provides an illustrated chronology and Yuri Mitsuda supplies artist biographies. "Tokyo 1955-1970: A New Avant-Garde" brings fresh insight to this dynamic metropolis during a time of remarkable artistic burgeoning.

Arms-Commander

Creator: L. E. Modesitt, Jr. | Fiction - 2010-01-05

Arms-Commander takes place ten years after the end of The Chaos Balance and tells the story of the legendary Saryn.

Publisher: Macmillan

About this book
Arms-Commander takes place ten years after the end of The Chaos Balance and tells the story of the legendary Saryn. The keep of Westwind, in the cold mountainous heights called the Roof of the World, is facing attack by the adjoining land of Gallos. Arthanos, son and heir to the ailing Prefect of Gallos, wishes to destroy Westwind because the idea of a land where women rule is total anathema to him.Saryn, Arms-Commander of Westwind, is dispatched to a neighboring land, Lornth, to seek support against the Gallosians. In the background, the trading council of Suthya is secretly and informally allied with Gallos against Westwind and begins to bribe lord-holders in Lornth to foment rebellion and civil war. They hope to create such turmoil in Lornth that the weakened land will fall to Suthya. But Zeldyan, regent of Lornth, has problems in her family. To secure Zeldyan's aid, Saryn must pledge her personal support—and any Westwind guard forces she can raise—to the defense of Zeldyan and her son. The fate of four lands, including Westwind, rests on Saryn's actions.

    Great for the Wii U!

For the price, I was very surprised at the quality of this cable. Due to the niche nature of the cable, I honestly expected it to kind of be a piece of junk. However, it's a very sturdy cable with strong connectors. Now that I have it plugged in, it's not really going to move much, but it really feels like it could stand up to a lot.I use this cable for my Wii U, which unfortunately does not put out enough power from its USB ports to handle both data and power at the same time, which is why this cable is needed. This allows one port to strictly be used for data and the other for power. The hard drive connector snaps in securely as do the USB connectors. It provides a stable data connection from the hard drive to the Wii U and allows ample power to keep the drive going.I've played a few games (Splatoon and Super Smash Bros.) off of it and have noticed absolutely no problems. I use it with a Toshiba 1.5TB hard drive that I originally used for school... 5/5 Devin A. (Utah) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
